Mission

The Medical Coordinator for Emergency Exploration is responsible for the design, development, supervision, and improvement of the identification of needs and health and nutrition activities of MdM emergency programs in the region. He/she ensures the quality of services supported by MdM by integrating the Triple Nexus approach into health programs, while promoting the development of a sustainable emergency response strategy in the Burkina mission. He/she represents the organization in technical forums, during exploratory and team coordination visits, and ensures adequate communication and coordination with key stakeholders and internally with the rest of the team.

Geographical scope of intervention

The successful candidate will be based in Ouagadougu and with visits to different bases or territories in the country identified for the identification of needs in Burkina.

Organizational chart

The successful candidate will be part of the mission coordination team and will report directly to the country coordinator. He/she will have a direct technical link with the national health coordinator and the Health Advisor at headquarters.

Functions

Team management:

1. Technically supervises the development of health and nutrition needs identification for MdM emergency/humanitarian interventions in Burkina

2. Provide technical advice on the recruitment of any personnel related to the exploitation.

3. Ensure the proper management of the staff under his supervision according to the vision, policies and values of MdM.

4. Identify priorities for humanitarian interventions, including the Triple Nexus approach, health, MHPSS, SRH and nutrition, and facilitate the identification of projects and key activities and resources for implementation.

5. Hold technical meetings, information sessions and interviews with the team, stakeholders and health authorities of the visited zoburkina to develop a needs assessment based on the priorities and capacities of the MdM teams in Burkina.

Context analysis, development of humanitarian intervention strategies and programs:

1. Participate, in collaboration with the management team, in the continuous updating of the global strategy for managing mobile devices in BURKINA.

2. Contribute to the design of new health interventions relevant to the mission based on the health needs identified in the country, in accordance with MDM’s health policy and intervention framework.

3. Participate in the timely design and drafting of concept notes and funding proposals, including HIP 2026

4. Is responsible for planning health-related activities with a humanitarian approach.

5. Design and carry out health assessments in collaboration with the Country Health Coordinator, Base Coordination and the Health Team.

Program quality and technical monitoring:

6. Provide technical supervision and support to the organization’s activities and the implementation of health programs. Promote the development of emergency plans and EPREP in health centers/local system.

7. Ensure the quality of health care and monitoring protocols in the identification of requested projects according to internationally accepted MdM standards, including the control of communicable diseases

8. Ensure that health programs use standardized policies and guidelines in accordance with the FONGHI Forum in BURKINA, UNICEF and WHO. Ensure and supervise the quality of activities in programs.

9. Analysis of medical data received regularly from the MdM team and/or partners and sharing with the mission and headquarters.

10. Report and analysis of epidemiological data; Provide an analysis of morbidity and mortality in the areas of Burkina Faso where desegregation intervention is taking place by age and sex.

Coordination:

1. Work in coordination with the MdM mission teams when identifying the project

2. Represent MdM at relevant coordination meetings (Health Working Group, BURKINA Forum, Nutrition Cluster, etc.) and bilateral meetings with local health authorities and partners when identifying expected needs.

3. Coordinate the exploratory mission with other NGOs and partners in the same area of intervention.

4. Communicate with donors (ECHO) and headquarters (technical ref, project technician, logistics and others) at the request of the country coordinator.

5. Participates and is part of the international MdM network, and coordinates in particular with the other MdM section present in Burkina (MdM Fr).

Medical/pharmaceutical supply and inventory management:

6. Participate in collaboration with the logistics team in ordering medicines and medical supplies in relation to the preparation of the Project proposal.

7. Reviews, validates and/or prepares (if necessary) new medical purchase orders, and reviews and validates the technical characteristics of the quotes.

8. Ensures the proper disposal of expired/damaged medicines and medical devices, in accordance with current legislation, MdM procedures and international standards, in collaboration with the pharmaceutical and logistics team and integrates them into the development of the planned project

Health risk management for MdM staff

9. Be responsible for the application of safety standards relating to the health of MdM personnel during the explo mission: health instructions, MEDEVAC protocol, first aid kits, etc.

10. Provide technical support for emergency incident response and critical incident management with a health component.

Required qualifications

Academic background:

1. Doctor of Medicine, University Degree or Registered Nurse.

Desirable:

1. Knowledge and/or experience in acute malnutrition management programs, gender-based violence and/or epidemic response.

2. Public health studies.

3. Knowledge/training on emergency response.

Requirements

Language: French C1. English or Spanish are an asset.

Computer Requirements: User level of Microsoft Office Excel and/or data collection and analysis software.

Essential criteria

Experience

1. At least 3 years of experience in positions with similar responsibilities (Identification and formulation of health projects, management of health and/or nutrition projects, management of health teams) at expatriate level, with a total of 5 years of experience in humanitarian projects funded by international donors.

2. Previous experience in emergency settings.

3. Previous experience in armed conflicts and/or the Sahel region, preferably in Burkina.

4. Experience in team coordination.
