SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that, for over 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflict and natural disasters by addressing their vital needs: water, food, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death worldwide, SI implements its interventions with expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in the essential areas of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI’s teams—a total of 3,200 people including expatriates, national staff, headquarters staff, and a few volunteers—operate with professionalism and dedication, respecting local cultures.
The mission
SI has been present in Chad since 2008, in CAR since 2014 and in Cameroon since 2017. The Chad and Cameroon missions merged in 2021, to be joined by CAR in 2025.
The Chad-Cameroon-Central African Republic (TCA) multi-country mission has 10 bases/sub-bases : in Cameroon, a coordination office in Yaoundé, an operational base in Maroua, and a sub-base in Makary; in Chad, a coordination office in N’Djamena and three bases in Bagasola, Adré, and Iriba; in the Central African Republic, a coordination office in Bangui and two bases in Markounda and Bouar. A new base is being opened in Haut-Mboumou.
In Cameroon – 3 projects: In the Far North, SI is implementing an emergency food response (RRM/Post-RRM), recovery and development activities in WASH and Food Security/Livelihoods, as well as disaster risk reduction activities. A cholera response is also being conducted in consortium with PUI and Plan. Donors: DG ECHO, CDCS, AFD, EU, StartFund. Partners: Tammounde Speranza, PUI, CADEPI, Plan.
In Chad – 7 projects: In the Lake Province, SI intervenes in food security, livelihoods, WASH, and support for agricultural practices. In the East, the response focuses on access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene for Sudanese refugees and Chadian populations, and also includes a cholera response. Donors: DG ECHO, SIDA/RRRM, CDCS, PRM, SDC, FH. Partners: ACHUDE, PUI, DRC.
In the Central African Republic – 3 projects: In Markounda, SI provides emergency and recovery support in the WASH, food security, and livelihoods sectors. In Bouar, SI is implementing a multi-year WASH development project in three regions, aiming to improve access to water and the sustainable management of water infrastructure. In Haut Mboumou, a new base is being opened with support from Swiss Cooperation and its own funds, notably to contribute to the prevention of Ebola virus disease in connection with the situation in the DRC. Donors: FH, CDCS, AFD, Swiss Cooperation. Partners: MDM, EAD, WFG, I3D.
Resources and organization:
- 197 employees , including 25 expatriates;
- 21 employees in Yaoundé , including 9 expatriates;
- Functional reporting on EHA RP (approximately 5 staff members depending on the projects), without direct management;
- 13 projects , with 5 national and 3 international partners;
- 11 to 12 million euros projected budget in 2026.
Job description
General objective:
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Department Manager supports the development of WASH programs for Solidarités International, working closely with the Country Director or Deputy Country Director for Programs at the TCA mission.
They ensure the relevance, quality (both technical and cross-cutting), and coherence of the programs, and contribute to the implementation teams’ adherence to the project cycle and monitoring procedures. They oversee internal and external coordination and contribute to the process of documenting and sharing best practices in the WASH sector. The opportunity to have a mission covering three countries allows for addressing diverse crisis contexts and creating opportunities to build bridges between programs (water point management and maintenance, water service issues, sanitation infrastructure, epidemic prevention and response, GRE, and community engagement for public health promotion).
Main Challenges:
Multi-country and diverse intervention contexts, with significant security and access constraints and programmatic challenges specific to each area, requiring a high degree of adaptability.
Numerous projects with varying timeframes and specific expectations (objectives, results, indicators) necessitate close and complex monitoring with considerable flexibility.
A heavy workload related to activity monitoring demands strong organizational, work capacity, and stress management skills.
Limited funding and the need to continuously develop new projects are essential. Therefore, strong writing skills are also required.
Priorities for the first 2-3 months:
Active contribution to the sectoral strategy but especially to the drafting of new project proposals for 2027.
Familiarization with the basics, primarily in the Central African Republic.
Security context:
Multi-country and diverse intervention contexts with strong and specific security and access constraints in each area.
Far North Cameroon: Level 3. High presence of non-state armed groups perpetrating daily attacks and abuses (JAS and ISWAP), frequent flooding limiting access, risk of epidemics (cholera).
Eastern Chad: Level 3. Risk of the Sudanese conflict spilling over into Chadian territory, increasingly frequent road robberies, risk of epidemics (cholera), poor road infrastructure.
Lake Chad: Level 3; risk of deterioration of the security situation at the Lake (JAS – Boko Haram threat), frequent flooding limiting access.
Central African Republic (Markounda and Bouar): Level 3. Numerous non-state armed and criminal groups perpetrating road robberies, poor road infrastructure, inclement weather limiting access.
Your profile
Formation :
Degree: Master’s (5 years of higher education) in humanitarian project management; international relations; public policy; or any other relevant field
Experience in the humanitarian sector: + 5 years
Experience in a similar job: 3-4 years

SI will offer you the following conditions
A salaried position: Depending on experience, starting from EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 base salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of EUR 600.
SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s home country and the place of assignment.
Breaks: During the mission, a system of alternating work and leave is in place, with 7 working days off every three months (with USD 850 allocated by Solidarités International). In addition to these break periods, one extra day of leave is granted for each month worked.
Social and medical coverage: Expatriates benefit from insurance that reimburses all healthcare costs (including medical and surgical fees, dental and ophthalmological care, and repatriation) and a supplementary benefits system that includes war risks. Essential vaccination and antimalarial treatment costs are reimbursed.

in Yaoundé offers a very pleasant living environment with numerous restaurants, bars, and cultural or sporting activities available.
Walking is possible in the city (the main risk being theft), except after nightfall.
