The Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) announces the availability of the following position in Syria:
Contract Type: Service Contract
Contract Duration: 9 months starting from September 1st
Work Location: Aleppo, with regular visits to Hama and Homs since project activities based in these three locations.
Project Overview
Among the development projects being implemented by ACU is the project to support inclusive and effective local communities, which aims to enhance the role of youth in effective dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and building community trust through the implementation of unconventional dialogue sessions held in public places such as cafes and workshops, and the implementation of community initiatives that promote cooperation and positive interaction and contribute to the reintegration of returnees, displaced persons, and host communities.
The main objective of the position
- Promoting a culture of community dialogue.
- Empowering youth to design and lead unconventional dialogue sessions.
- Fostering cooperation and positive interaction, and supporting return and reintegration.
- Enhancing mutual understanding, reducing misconceptions, and encouraging constructive interaction among diverse members of society.
- Building the capacity of youth teams to design and implement community initiatives that contribute to supporting peaceful coexistence and building community trust.
Responsibilities:
Main outputs:
- Forming four youth teams (two in Aleppo, one in Homs, and one in Hama) capable of understanding the specific context of the targeted neighborhoods and being sensitive to conflicts and mechanisms for return and reintegration.
- Conducting 160 unconventional dialogue sessions, with 40 sessions per team.
- Implementing 10 community initiatives based on the outcomes of the dialogue sessions.
Main tasks
- Develop a suitable work plan to achieve the desired results within the project timeline and allocated budget.
- Prepare training materials, tools, posters, and publications to be used in the required activities.
- Continuously monitor the performance of youth teams and their outputs through ongoing coaching, using appropriate tools to ensure teams fulfill their tasks, correct errors, and address any challenges they may encounter.
- Develop the teams’ capacity to implement dialogue activities, ensuring the participation of diverse youth groups and taking into account conflict sensitivities and the need to avoid causing harm.
- Support the teams in analyzing and summarizing the dialogue outcomes.
- Participate in developing and implementing community initiatives stemming from the dialogue sessions, ensuring their alignment with the project’s objectives of promoting community trust and building peace.
- Maintain continuous coordination with the project manager.
- Issue a report summarizing the implemented activities, work processes, and outputs.
Qualifications (Education/Work Experience)
- Must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Must have at least 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of experience working with civil society organizations.
- Proven and relevant professional experience in civic education, community dialogue, and confidence-building.
- Good understanding of the humanitarian context, particularly grants related to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
- Good understanding of the Syrian context and knowledge of local community conditions.
- Experience in training and preparing workshops and other required materials.
- Experience in developing and leading strategic plans and facilitating dialogue and discussions.
- Arabic: Native speaker
