Project Coordinator – Guinea-Bissau
Context
ACRA is a non-governmental, secular, and independent organization, founded in Milan in 1968, with over fifty years of experience in international cooperation, defending human rights, and combating poverty and inequality. It works in partnership with local communities and organizations in Africa and Latin America to guarantee the right to access food, water, education, and energy; to protect the environment; and to support inclusive and sustainable growth, valuing local talent and promoting gender equality.
In Europe and Italy, ACRA promotes a culture of dialogue and integration, intercultural exchange, and solidarity. It develops projects to combat gender-based violence, address climate change, and promote sustainable agricultural models and consumption practices. For over 30 years, it has organized Global Citizenship Education activities with schools and young people.
The selected individual will work in the management of the ACRA project in Guinea-Bissau, “Nô djubi no djius! Valorization of Sustainable Initiatives and Empowerment of Civil Society for the Green and Blue Economy of the Bijagós Islands,” funded by the European Union.
Job Title: Project Coordinator
Region/Headquarters: City of Bolama – Bolama Island, Guinea-Bissau
Start date: February 2026

Type of contract: co.co.co. (coordinated and continuous collaboration)
Contract duration: 12 months, with the possibility of renewal.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Implement the work plan, ensuring that activities are completed within the established deadlines and budgets, achieving the defined results and objectives;
- Coordinate and supervise the project team in the planning and execution of activities, ensuring efficiency and sustainability;
- Prepare periodic reports, both internally and for funders, on the progress of the project;
- To facilitate communication between the parties involved in the project, including local stakeholders, government authorities, partner organizations, and funders;
- Manage the administrative and financial aspects of the project, including reviewing the annual budget;
- Plan and conduct meetings and other events related to the project;
- Conduct field visits to verify the progress of activities;
- Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation process of project actions, including data collection and the preparation of performance reports;
- Organize and control the materials and equipment needed for the project;
- Hold regular meetings with the Program Officer and the Legal Representative in Guinea-Bissau to communicate the project’s progress;
- To oversee the safety and security aspects of PSEA activities during implementation.
Perform any other tasks requested by superiors related to project implementation, according to one’s own skills.
Required skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in fields related to the Environmental sector / International Cooperation;
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Non-Governmental Organizations, with at least 1 year in project management roles;
- Ability to work with diverse partners, including local institutions and civil society organizations;
- Knowledge of the rules and procedures for managing projects funded by the European Union;
- Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis;
- Experience using project management software tools (such as MS Project, advanced Excel, etc.);
- Fluency in Portuguese and at least one other language among French, English, or Italian.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability and community development;
- Strong adaptability and resilience in complex and challenging operational contexts;
- Respect for ACRA’s values ​​and mission.
The following will be considered a plus:
- Prior experience in Guinea-Bissau and knowledge of the local context;
- Knowledge of the Creole language of Guinea-Bissau;
- Immediate availability.
