Background
The International Development Corporation, a Research & Development organization headquartered in Canada, is seeking several experts for a project focused on food security, nutrition, health and agricultural development in the Central African Republic.
Mission objectives
The mission’s objective is to implement integrated community-based nutrition and agriculture activities targeting women and young women producers, with the aim of improving household dietary diversity, nutritional knowledge, and livelihood opportunities. This intervention primarily targets 625 women and young producers’ associations, representing approximately 20,000 beneficiaries, through existing Safe Spaces and other women’s associations. The goal is to provide them with vegetable and livestock kits and to offer training on good nutritional practices. At least 150 community health workers will receive training on malnutrition detection.
Expected results:
The expected results are the provision of nutritional services and products to 625 women’s and young producers’ groups/associations, representing 20,000 women. The performance of the service delivery will be measured using the following performance indicators:
Indicator No. 4: Inputs distributed (metric tons)
Indicator No. 9: Women benefiting from improved nutritional services and products (Number)
The service should also contribute to indicator No. 2: Volume of crops produced (metric tons).
Job description
- Promoting climate- and nutrition-sensitive agriculture through women’s and youth producer groups in community-based safe spaces:
- Setting up or improving vegetable and market gardens according to the principles of climate-smart agriculture (CSA);
- Support for local poultry farming to strengthen access to animal protein;
- Promotion of diverse and climate-resilient vegetable seeds;
- Use of existing safe spaces and other spaces of associations for training in improved agricultural practices;
- Provision of inputs and support for income-generating activities in the agricultural sector.
- Providing community-based nutrition education in safe spaces for women and youth:
- Organization of training sessions in nutrition and hygiene;
- Capacity building for women and young people on good agricultural and nutritional practices.
- Support for the implementation of the National Community Health Strategy in community health centers in the different and common intervention areas of the two projects :
- Collaboration with community health workers for the identification and monitoring of children suffering from acute malnutrition, particularly those aged 0 to 2 years;
- Support for awareness campaigns in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Food and Nutritional Security of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development;
- Capacity building for community health workers in nutrition and hygiene.
Expected deliverables
Kick-off report including detailed work plan and targeting complement strategy;
Beneficiary database, disaggregated by sex;
Training materials and technical packages on climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and nutrition;
Quarterly progress reports;
Final report including results, lessons learned and sustainability plan.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Profile: Agro-nutritionist or Food Security and Nutrition Specialist
- Required level: Master’s degree or higher
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in leadership and management
