Context

Coopermondo, an NGO within the Confcooperative network, is committed to promoting the cooperative model as a tool for sustainable, inclusive, and participatory development. Fassa is the ancestral name in Tunisian dialect for one of the country’s most widespread forage crops. The FASSA – Sustainable Agri-Food Supply Chains for Food Security project was born from the capitalization of the experiences and expertise of COSPE, ATAE, Shanti, UNFT, and COOPERMONDO to provide an integrated and effective response to the need for a transition to sustainable agricultural and socio-economic development models in the Tunisian regions of Jendouba, Kairouan, and Mahdia. The initiative contributes to food security in Tunisia (Nutrition) by promoting access to sufficient and safe nutrition (SDG 2.1), through agro-ecological interventions that support the environment by strengthening land resilience (Aid to the environment) and thus preventing natural disasters (DDR), through participatory processes that make communities protagonists of change (Participatory Development), and by placing women at the center of the process of safeguarding food security and sovereignty, as drivers of change (Gender Equality).
