Introduction
The Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (CRB-Fl) is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Respect for the seven principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality is always essential in our work. The International Department focuses on three thematic areas: International Humanitarian Law, Restoring Family Links, and our International Operations. Working closely with the sister national society in each country and its many volunteers, the CRB-Fl concentrates on implementing projects in the areas of first aid, blood banking, and disaster response, primarily in Africa.
In the coming years, CRB-Fl will continue to strengthen its expertise-based strategy to maximize the impact of its operations. It places great importance on innovation, integrity, initiative, and teamwork.
The CRB-Fl is seeking a versatile Project Manager who will also act as Country Representative and strengthen the partnership with the Burkina Faso Red Cross, with a particular focus on first aid and blood donation.
Job description
End-to-end responsibility as a project manager is a key success factor. CRB-Fl relies on your skills in the following areas:
Operational delivery
- You are responsible for ensuring that all project activities and objectives are delivered on time and to a high standard.
- You monitor the qualitative implementation of activities within your projects and support the CRBF in its daily project management.
- You ensure compliance with all the partner’s internal procedures
- You will gain a good understanding of the strategic priorities and operational capabilities of the CRBF
- You support and facilitate CRB-Fl expert missions to Burkina Faso, and ideally, you are able to facilitate them yourself.
Budgetary responsibility and financial management
- You ensure the punctuality and quality of all financial reports, both within CRB-Fl and with regard to donors.
- You manage the budget and ensure a consistently accurate view of actual expenses and forecasts.
- You perform a quality control of the justifications in accordance with the procedures defined by the financial departments of CRB-Fl and CRBF.
Reporting and communication
- You report clearly and concisely to CRB-Fl headquarters.
- You have a solution-oriented mindset
- You are able to discuss complex situations with your peers and your direct manager in a proactive and transparent manner.
- You ensure the timeliness and quality of narrative reports on program content and continuity and communicate partnership and activity successes to external audiences through appropriate channels.
Fundraising
- You are actively seeking new funding opportunities, in line with the CRB-Fl strategy
- You develop relevant and high-quality project proposals in close cooperation with the CRBF and the CRB-Fl headquarters.
- You will delve deeper into the strategy, policies and activities of the CRBF and propose opportunities that align with the CRB-Fl strategy
Stakeholder management
- You establish a constructive relationship with all relevant stakeholders involved in the CRB-Fl project portfolio
- You present CRB-Fl’s strategy and policies to the partner and other external stakeholders.
- You represent CRB-Fl to delegates from other Red Cross/Red Crescent entities and you actively support all relevant coordination initiatives.
- You establish contacts and relationships with relevant stakeholders in the country: embassies, government institutions, Belgian companies, etc.
Country Representative
- You are responsible for the overall management of the CRB-FL delegation in Burkina Faso.
- You facilitate a professional relationship between CRB-Fl and CRBF in order to ensure a positive and constructive partnership.
- You develop a security framework for Burkina Faso based on the general rules of the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement and/or the CRB-Fl headquarters and you manage potential security incidents in collaboration with the CRB-Fl headquarters.
- You ensure the proper application of the integrity framework installed at CRB-Fl within the delegation and CRB-Fl projects.
- You represent the CRB-Fl to the Red Cross movement and other institutions in Burkina Faso.
Your profile
- You have a master’s level university degree in science or economics.
- Knowledge of medical science, first aid, blood banking and/or data management is an asset.
- You have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, including prior experience in development cooperation or humanitarian aid.
- Experience in project management, preferably internationally, is an added value.
- Experience within the Red Cross/Red Crescent movement is an asset
- A proven professional track record in a results-oriented environment is an asset.
- Fluency in English and French is essential, both spoken and written.
- Knowledge of Dutch is preferred.
- Knowledge of common software is required.
- A high degree of independence and a methodical approach to work and communication are expected.
