OUR MISSION
Doctors of the World is an international medical development NGO and part of an international network. We provide medical assistance to vulnerable groups in Belgium and around the world.
We want universal health coverage where everyone has access to care, without barriers (financial, cultural, geographical, etc.).
To successfully carry out our mission, we rely on three pillars:
- Providing care : giving populations real access to healthcare.
- Change : more than helping, we want to change things in the long term.
- Bearing witness : we do not remain silent. Thanks to our experience and our presence on the ground, we challenge the authorities (local, regional and (inter)national) with facts, figures and realities.
Our projects follow a series of values common to our entire organization: Social Justice, Empowerment, Independence, Commitment, Balance.
THE ESSENTIALS
Under the hierarchical supervision of the General Coordination, the Protection Coordinator is responsible for the technical quality and consistency of protection approaches within MdM’s interventions in the DRC.
He/She ensures compliance with humanitarian protection standards (IASC standards) in all interventions, guaranteeing their cross-cutting integration into health programs.
This position has a functional link with field teams (including the Protection Officer and community supervisors) at the mission, project, and program levels. It works closely with the Health Coordinator, the MEAL Coordinator, and the Programs Coordinator/Deputy CG to ensure an interdisciplinary, holistic approach aligned with international standards (Sphere, IASC, WHO), Theories of Change (ToC), and MdM’s internal methodologies.
He/She ensures the integration of person-centered, gender and intersectionality approaches, as well as the rights-based approach, into all operations.
He/She contributes to the continuous adaptation of interventions based on the analysis of contextual dynamics and factors of sensitivity to conflict, in a “Do No Harm” logic.
Based in Bukavu, the Protection Coordinator must be able to travel frequently within the province of South Kivu or elsewhere, including to areas with difficult access or volatile security contexts, in order to provide technical support to teams, strengthen the quality of interventions and support their adaptation to contextual dynamics.
