Background/IRC Summary:

The Syria crisis is considered the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the Cold War, with 16.5 million people in need of assistance due to economic decline and ongoing violence. Of these, 7 million are internally displaced, and 5.4 million are refugees in neighboring countries. The fall of the Syrian regime in December 2024 has left the situation complex and volatile, posing significant challenges to humanitarian efforts.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is responding robustly to the crisis with a $90 million annual regional portfolio and over 3,000 staff. IRC’s programs in Syria and neighboring countries focus on health, cash assistance, education, child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and livelihood programming. The work addresses critical issues such as access, security, funding, and coordination in these challenging settings.

Job Overview/Summary:

The Protection Mobilizer will be responsible for the implementation, facilitation of the Men and Boys engagement activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Startup men engagement activities including awareness raising and engaging men in GBV prevention under the supervision of Men and Boys Engagement Supervisor and Protection Officer;
  • Prepare and facilitate GBV awareness sessions for men and boys in close collaboration with the senior management;
  • Organize the daily / weekly / monthly work plan of the Men and Boys activities;
  • Represent the organization with community leaders and other stakeholders and develop working relationships and engagement in Men & Boys program activities;
  • Track and report on participant attendance for activities;
  • Submit weekly, monthly, quarterly activity report to the supervisor;
  • Collaborate closely with GBV, CP, PSS and other sectors when needed;
  • Contribute to the development of proposed activities.
  • Any other duties as required by supervisors.

Required Experience/qualification/Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of GBV Minimum Standards
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience of providing GBV services
  • Technical diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work, social sciences, psychology, counseling, or any other related field
  • Extremely strong communication skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural and sensitive issues
  • Strong understanding of protection issues and gender-based violence core concepts

Language/Travel:

  • Arabic is required, while English are desired.
  • Travel: Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and travel as required to different field sites as well as attending regional and global workshops and meetings.
