Greening strategy:

Acted PSEAH Policy:

The REACH Data Assistant has the responsibility to adhere to the PSEAH Policy (Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment). REACH Data Assistant has the obligation to complete all mandatory training courses related to the Code of Conduct and the PSEA policy and report any safeguarding concern such as breaches of organizational policies or codes of conduct according to Acted’s procedures. REACH Data Assistant carries out work duties in a way that does not harm children, vulnerable adults or other staff or volunteers.

Job Purpose

The Data Assistant will variously support workstreams related to humanitarian planning and prioritization, markets and livelihoods, durable solutions and area-based assessments. This entails supporting all data related aspects of the units’ research cycles, including research design, data cleaning and data analysis. He or she will also support the team in creation of relevant information products, including dashboards or other interactive ways or presenting data*.*

Objectives

  • Under the supervision of the Data Specialist, the REACH Data Assistant will support coding data collection tools, data checking and cleaning, data analysis, and producing visualizations for analysis products. the ground.
  • In collaboration with Coordination and program colleagues, contribute to the strategic direction of REACH in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities

Based in Damascus, the REACH Data Assistant, under operational guidance of the REACH Data Specialist, is responsible for:

  • Coding assessment tools in Kobo/ODK;
  • Supporting with developing data checking, cleaning and analysis scripts (e.g. in R);
  • Working alongside the research team to clean and quality check incoming assessment data (in R and excel) and developing structured data analysis plans
  • Supporting with producing data visualizations for information products.
  • Advanced candidates will be encouraged to contribute to the development of R tools, scripts and packages to streamline work flows of both the Myanmar and Global REACH teams.
  • There is potential to broaden the role to GIS tasks if the applicant is suitably experienced.

The Data Assistant will maintain the strictest confidentiality on all data collected and related processes, ensuring full compliance with REACH’s data protection policy and SOPs. They will actively take measures to prevent the unauthorized sharing of any information and data belonging to REACH and its partners or collected during their assignment with REACH.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic:

  • Relevant degree in Computer or Data Science, Statistics, Economics, or related

Software skills:

  • Strong skills in MS Excel is required, proven knowledge of Microsoft office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of ODK/Kobo form coding is desirable.
  • Proven experience of R or Python programming is desirable.

Research skills:

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods
  • Experience with data cleaning, analysis and visualisation is advantageous

Years of work experience:

  • At least 6 months of relevant working experience. Experience in humanitarian or development settings is an advantage;

Communication/reporting skills:

  • Excellent communication and drafting skills for effective reporting;

Language skills:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English required

Level of independence:

  • Ability and willingness to work autonomously;
  • Positive work ethic and desire to work in the humanitarian field;

Cross-cultural work environment:

Ability to operate in a cross-cultural environment requiring flexibility
