About INSO
Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) is an international NGO that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations, and training. INSO provides daily support to more than 1,500 NGOs operating in 24 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters located in The Hague, a city renowned for its international focus on peace and justice.
INSO Ukraine
INSO Ukraine opened in 2015. Since the escalation of conflict in February 2022, it has rapidly expanded to a full platform serving the needs of NGOs in a fast-evolving conflict. Currently, over 200 national and international NGOs receive INSO services. Our country office is in Kyiv, supported by field offices in Lviv, Dnipro, and Odesa. The scale and intensity of the Ukraine conflict have seen significant humanitarian safety challenges. As part of INSO Ukraine, you will play a key role in developing impactful services for humanitarian safety and helping aid to reach people in need.
Job Summary
As the Safety Advisor- Mobile, you will have a unique opportunity to work in a close-knit team giving security analysis and advice that is vital to the efforts of the NGO community to deliver aid. You will explore local dynamics and develop an understanding of what is relevant to NGOs seeking to inform strategic decision-making and programming. You will be outgoing and resilient, with the ability to analyse complex issues and contexts, give practical safety and security advice, and share INSO’s commitment to humanitarian principles.
This position is based in Kyiv City with regular frequent travel to multiple areas in Ukraine and reports to the Deputy Director.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain an information network, including NGOs, the UN, government authorities, and other stakeholders, to obtain credible and relevant safety information.
- Travel extensively in Ukraine and develop an understanding of the different regions, enabling countrywide and comparative reporting and analysis.
- Cover for other Safety Advisors and provide surge capacity as needed.
- Build capacity for other colleagues, as needed.
- Provide NGOs with safety information and contextual analysis of the operating environment through alerts and analytical reports.
- Assist NGOs in developing their own safety management capacities by reviewing policy documents, conducting site surveys, and assisting in crisis planning.
- Effectively represent, promote, and protect INSO’s mandate of independence, impartiality, and neutrality.
Requirements
Essential
- Proven writing, editing, and analytical skills and the keenest eye for detail.
- Experience in conflict and post-conflict environments.
- Experience in the humanitarian and/or risk management and/or humanitarian access sectors.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Personal and professional resilience in a fast-moving, high-output, quality-driven program.
- Independent drive, motivation, and excellence, and the ability to operate and sustainably manage staff under strict systems and deadlines.
- Well-developed personal, organisational, and management skills and standards in a diverse multi-cultural setting.
- Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety practices and principles.
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
- Graduate-level education in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in Ukraine.
- Good command/professional fluency in Ukrainian, both written and spoken.
- Experience with NGO security and/or project management.
- Existing information networks in Ukraine.
- Prior experience in an inter-agency role.

Terms and Conditions
12-month renewable contract, €5000 per month salary, €1,200 monthly housing allowance, 4 calendar days annual leave per month and 7 days of R&R every 3 months, global medical coverage (excluding USA), $200,000 AD&D coverage. Please be aware that the selection of a national candidate will be subject to the local salary and benefits scheme.
