Senior Adviser – Strategic Partnerships

Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is seeking a Senior Adviser for Strategic Partnerships to strengthen and develop the organization’s engagement with key institutional donors, innovative financing mechanisms, and international foundations.

The position is part of the Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD) within the Department of International Programmes (DIP), and reports to the Head of Division.

Main responsibilities

The role combines strategic advisory, partnership development, and internal coordination.

Institutional partnerships (with emphasis on FCDO):

  • Develop and maintain NCA’s relationships with selected institutional donors, including the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
  • Provide strategic support to country offices in their engagement with institutional donors
  • Monitor donor priorities, policies, and funding opportunities, and disseminate relevant information internally
  • Contribute to funding processes, including lessons learned, consortium arrangements, and grant negotiations
  • Support compliance, risk management, and quality assurance in collaboration with Finance and Legal functions

Innovative financing:

  • Identify and advance opportunities within blended finance, results-based financing, and impact investment and other similar innovative finance mechanisms
  • Contribute to the development of new funding models and pilot initiatives
  • Support positioning for large-scale and cross-sector funding opportunities

International foundations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with selected international foundations
  • Provide guidance to country offices on engagement strategies and funding opportunities
  • Develop and maintain institutional knowledge of foundation priorities and processes

Organizational support:

  • Contribute to strategic planning, coordination, and internal processes within SPD
  • Support capacity development on fundraising and donor engagement across NCA
  • Facilitate internal coordination and knowledge sharing, including being the focal point for the quarterly online meeting of the fundraising community of practice

Qualifications and experience

Required:

  • Minimum 7–10 years of relevant experience within strategic partnerships, fundraising, or donor engagement
  • Experience working with institutional donors
  • Proven ability to build and manage external relationships at a senior level

Desirable:

  • Experience with FCDO and/or international foundations
  • Familiarity with innovative financing mechanisms (e.g. blended finance, results-based financing, impact investment)
  • Established networks within philanthropic or development financing environments

Skills:

  • Strong strategic and analytical capabilities
  • Ability to translate programmatic needs into funding opportunities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • High level of autonomy and collaboration
