Senior Program Manager for Africa Region At Feed the Children

Job Summary:

The Senior Program Manager for Africa Region provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for all programmatic activities across Feed International’s operations in Africa. Under the direction of the Regional Director and in collaboration with the International Operations leadership and country office teams, the SP ensures that all programmes are implemented with technical excellence, operational efficiency, and measurable impact.

The SPM leads cross-functional collaboration in program planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management. This role is pivotal in supporting country teams, coordinating donor compliance, developing work plans and budgets, and ensuring smooth implementation of activities. The SP also plays a critical role in business development, partner engagement, and capacity strengthening.

The incumbent will contribute to the overall strategy of the organisation, mainly in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda and Tanzania, or any other country offices as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & Programme Management

  • Provide programmatic oversight across country programmes in Africa, ensuring alignment with Feed International’s strategic objectives and quality standards.
  • Lead project work planning, activity tracking, and budget management in collaboration with country teams, technical leads, and finance staff.
  • Ensure timely implementation of programme activities and adherence to donor timelines and deliverables.

2. Donor Compliance & Reporting

  • Monitor programme performance against work plans, budgets, and donor requirements.
  • Ensure timely submission of high-quality narrative and financial reports to donors.
  • Support the development of new proposals, including coordination, editing, and submission of technical and financial inputs.

3. Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Represent Feed International in relevant external forums, donor meetings, and partner engagements.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with donors, partners, and government counterparts.

4. Technical Coordination & Quality Assurance

  • Work with technical team leaders to ensure the methodological and technical quality of programme activities.
  • Support the documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories.
  • Coordinate with M&E teams to ensure data-driven decision-making and learning.

5. Capacity Building & Team Support

  • Support capacity development of country office staff and partners on project management, compliance, reporting, and M&E.
  • Coordinate internal programme support meetings and ensure information flows across teams.
  • Oversee procurement and contract management processes, ensuring compliance with Feed International and donor policies.

Qualifications Technical Expertise and Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred in International Development, Public Administration, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP Or equivalent) required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 5–8 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in programme management in an international development or humanitarian context.
  • Demonstrated success in managing donor-funded programmes, especially with USG (USAID, BHA, etc.).
  • Proven experience contributing to successful proposal development and business development initiatives.
  • Experience managing remote teams across multiple countries or regions.
  • Strong knowledge of programme cycle management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Proven budget development, financial tracking, and donor reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with procurement workflows and compliance processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Working knowledge of USG rules and regulations, GAAP, and internal controls.

  • Fluent in English; proficiency in French or a relevant local language is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to work independently and effectively in a remote, distributed team environment using digital collaboration tools.
  • Given the international scope of this role, the candidate must demonstrate strong time management and adaptability, including the flexibility to occasionally collaborate outside of regular working hours to accommodate time zone differences with the supervisor and colleagues across multiple countries.
