Summary of Job Description:
The Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC)Consultant is responsible for leading SBCC interventions and related community engagement activities across FilmAid Kenya’s health, protection, education, and other programs. The role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating community-informed interventions; strengthening community participation and ownership in behavioral change initiatives; and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to guide and improve SBCC strategies, influence desirable health behaviors, and foster community resiliency and preparedness in health emergencies and disease outbreaks.
He/she will serve as a key link between the community, stakeholders, and health partners, ensuring that messages are tailored to community needs and preferences, while employing MERL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning) data to track progress, measure impact, and adapt interventions for greater effectiveness.

- Lead SBCC interventions and community engagement initiatives with a strong focus on public health.
- Ensure high-quality data and reporting mechanisms for SBCC are in place.
- Support the design and delivery of behavior change campaigns and messages.
- Promote inclusive, culturally appropriate, and evidence-informed programming that resonates with community members’ preferences and needs.
Detailed Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Social Behaviour Change Communication:
- Develop and implement SBCC interventions and campaigns in collaboration with community stakeholders, with a strong emphasis on cholera prevention and control alongside health, education, and protection messages.
- Support the design and delivery of messages and materials (SMS, radio, leaflets, community meetings) to influence health behaviors related to cholera, hygiene, water, sanitation, and related health issues.
- Develop and translate messages for bulk SMS and multimedia content across grants.
- Promote community dialogue on cross-cutting issues (cholera, health, education, rights, protection) through inclusive and participatory communication approaches.
- Support testing and revision of SBCC materials in consultation with community members.
- Develop collaborative media productions (such as radio programs or short video messages) alongside community stakeholders.
- Support community stakeholders to identify their concerns and collaboratively identify sustainable solutions related to health, education, protection, and cholera prevention.
Community Engagement:
- Represent FilmAid in relevant coordination and inter-agency forums (CPWG, Food, Protection, Health, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene clusters).
- Support community engagement initiatives by strengthening relationships with stakeholders and community groups.
- Gather community feedback, concerns, and questions through CwC meetings, FGDs, community meetings, and participatory assessments.
- Provide critical information back to stakeholders and communities to foster dialogue, understanding, and ownership.
Monitoring and Evaluation Support:
- Lead SBCC monitoring and data management (collection, entry, cleaning, validation) to assure high data quality for SBCC.
- Develop and implement MERL plans with clear indicators and realistic timelines for SBCC interventions
- Support internal and external research and evaluation processes, offering technical and logistical assistance.
- Prepare and submit timely, standard reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) following donor guidelines across different grants
- Utilize analytic tools and methods for both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Maintain a consolidated output tracker to aid programme teams in delivering results.
Knowledge, Skills, Behaviors, and Experience — SBCC Consultant
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Health, Sociology, or related field.
- At least 3 years’ experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating participatory SBCC interventions (preferably in a humanitarian context)
- Proven expertise in community engagement, participatory methods, and health promotion campaigns
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with, influence, and empower community members toward desirable health behaviors.
- Training or experience in developing and utilizing SBCC materials and messages (posters, radio messages, SMS campaigns, community dialogue sessions) to promote healthy practices.
- Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a challenging and dynamic environment.
- Ability to design and implement community interventions that reflect the cultural context, preferences, and routines of the community.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and make decisions in the field while upholding humanitarian principles and ethical standards.
- Proven experience in data management and participatory research methods.
- Familiar with electronic data collection and management platforms (such as KoboToolbox).
- Ability to perform both quantitative and qualitative data analysis
Staff Capacity Development:
- Provide continuous mentorship and capacity strengthening to data clerks and community facilitators on SBCC.
- Support adherence to FilmAid’s policies and standards (Protection, Accountability, Communication with Communities, C4D) across all team members.
- Identify training needs and collaborate with supervisors to enable team growth.
Other duties:
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Area Manager.

Note:
The job starts 1st July – 30th September 2025 – three months’ period.
