The German Red Cross (GRC) is part of a worldwide community assisting victims of conflicts and disasters and people affected by social or health related crises. Position and Team:
The GRC is currently seeking a Technical Manager Health to join the Health Unit within the International Cooperation Department at our Headquarters in Berlin.
The Technical Manager provides expert support to humanitarian projects worldwide that have a component of health. While the primary focus of this role is to provide specific support on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), the role requires a versatile public health knowledge with a strong emphasis on prevention, community-based approaches, and MHPSS.
The Technical Manager ensures that health interventions specifically maternal health, family planning, and safe abortion care, meet international medical standards. This includes the development and implementation of technical quality indicators and hands-on support for project proposals. Beyond quality oversight, the role involves driving the development of new projects and introducing innovative ideas to increase intervention impact. The Technical Manager bridges field experience with global standards to ensure continuous learning and best practice. Based on the unit’s work division of tasks and the profile of the selected candidate, technical responsibility for a specific geographic region may be assigned.
The employment is full-time (100%). The employment offer is initially limited to 31.12.2027. An extension of employment is sought.
Your tasks:
• Provide technical advice and support to GRC projects with health related activities, with a focus on SRHR, community and primary health care and public health: support the design and technical writing of project proposals as well as the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health projects in coordination with GRC country teams.
•Lead the development and tracking of quality indicators to monitor the impact and medical standards of health interventions.
• Provide support to GRC country teams in all matters related to health programming also beyond existing projects and approaches in support of the partnership with RCRC Sister National Societies.
• Develop relevant guidelines and document best practices to strengthen the international work of GRC in health.
• Support the design and delivery of trainings, workshops and other capacity building initiatives with regards to health.
• In all these efforts, ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to innovation and knowledge transfer.
• Contribute to networking and coordination with relevant stakeholders inside and outside the RCRC movement.
Your profile:
• Relevant university degree (e.g., Public Health)
• Qualified Midwife or Nurse with SRHR experience; a Public Health degree (or equivalent) is a strong advantage
• At least 5 years’ experience in humanitarian assistance and/or development cooperation, with preferably 3 years of experience in the direct implementation of health projects in the field
• Proficient in project cycle management with a strong focus on developing and tracking quality indicators for health programs.
• Experience in development and conducting trainings or workshops is a strong asset
• Experience in working with local partner organisations; experience of working within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is an asset
• Detailed knowledge of (community-based) health approaches; knowledge of the relevant RCRC approaches is a strong asset
• Strong ability to work in a team and a strong will to cooperate
• Ability to communicate in an appreciative and culturally appropriate manner
• Fluent in spoken and written English; fluency in German is a strong asset; Arabic, or French is an additional asset
• Availability and willingness to travel abroad, fitness for travel in the tropics and other challenging environments
