Trainer in Verification and Combating Media Misinformation At Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression

Within the framework of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM)’s work to build a society based on respect and protection of the right to free expression of opinion, and to support and raise the level of media work, the Media and Freedoms Program at the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression plans to implement training to enhance the capabilities of journalists in the field of:

Verification and combating media misinformation

Accordingly, the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression is looking for a trainer to prepare and deliver training in Syria (Damascus – Qamishli) in accordance with the attached terms of reference.

Training Terms of Reference

  • Training topic:
    • Verification and combating media disinformation
  • General objective:
    • Physical training for 36 journalists from different regions in Syria (24 people in Damascus and 12 people in Qamishli) according to a schedule to be agreed upon on verifying and combating media disinformation.
  • Detailed tasks:
    • Preparing a training package to enhance the capacity of approximately 36 journalists on verification and combating media misinformation (under the supervision of the Center’s team).
    • Review the training package with the center team to ensure that the training meets the training needs of the target group and contributes to achieving the project’s objectives.
    • Implementation and management of physical training (in Damascus and Qamishli).
    • Preparing evaluation tools for training courses such as (pre- and post-knowledge assessment)
    • Modify and develop the training package based on the questionnaire outputs and the training sessions implemented.
    • Submit the final training report, which should include:
      • Analysis of the results of the pre- and post-questionnaires.
      • Cognitive development.
      • Lessons learned and recommendations.
      • Documenting training outcomes.
      • Attendance records.
  • Required qualifications and skills:
    • Excellent academic qualifications, including at least a bachelor’s degree or higher in a media major.
    • Demonstrable experience in implementing similar training for the media sector (at least five years), preferably in verification and combating media disinformation.
    • Proven technical expertise, particularly in verification and combating disinformation.
    • Experience and understanding of the Syrian context and the issues facing stakeholders in Syria.
    • Excellent training skills (preparing training packages – effective communication skills – feedback – evaluation tools – report writing).
    • Ability to conduct training in Syria (Damascus and Qamishli)
