Qualifications and Requirements: A post-graduate sub-specialist qualification in Neonatology OR a General Pediatrician with neonatal expertise; 3 years’ relevant work experience in teaching and education; Registered with relevant professional body.

Through improved residency coordination, enhanced skills training, and impactful QI initiatives like expanded peritoneal dialysis, the partnership is advancing paediatric capacity while reducing child mortality in Malawi.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The KUHeS Neonatology Seed Educator will play a central role in the development and strengthening of the Neonatology program within the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The educator will support the design, review, and implementation of curricula, accreditation processes, and competency-based training approaches for neonatal care. This role also includes capacity building for faculty and clinical staff, mentoring of students, and advancing high-quality clinical practice, research, and quality improvement in neonatal care. For this initial placement, particular emphasis will be placed on program development, curriculum design, competency development, and supporting accreditation with relevant professional and regulatory bodies.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The KUHES Neonatology SEED EDUCATOR is part of the KUHES Paediatrics and Child Health Department Faculty. He/She will be responsible for the following:
Teaching and Educational Leadership (50%)
- Participating in the development and review of curriculum; thus including supporting the process of accreditation with the relevant bodies.
- Integrate evidence-based practices, national health priorities and global health competencies into curricula.
- Developing and reviewing teaching and learning materials including modules
- Planning and coordinating course-related meetings, trainings, and making sure that minutes and appropriate records are kept and filed.
- Providing effective tutoring , assessment and supervision to students at various levels;
- Developing, adopting and adapting various new technologies and concepts in teaching and learning;
- Participating in deliberation and decision making on the Neonatology courses’ operational, administrative and disciplinary issues.
- Generating and submitting monthly, quarterly and annual reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting the Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) in its priorities, including the identification of neonatal equipment needs, development of simulation scenarios, integration of simulation-based teaching into the neonatal curriculum, and establishment of neonatal skills corners.
- Supporting the School of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health in the delivery and further development of the Neonatal Nursing program, including curriculum strengthening, clinical teaching, and faculty mentorship.
Clinical Practice and Supervision (30%)
- Provide high-quality clinical care
- Supervise complex cases and emergency procedures with trainees
- Participate in multidisciplinary patient care teams
- Supporting in mentoring assistant lectures;
- Representing the Department in various fora;
- Lead and support clinical staff with quality improvement projects
Research and Scholarly Activities (20%)
- Initiating and undertaking research projects, outreach activities and supporting consultancies;
- Publishing and disseminating research results;
- Supervising student research projects
- Mentor trainees in research methodology and project implementation
The above notwithstanding, the KUHeS Seed Educator Neonatology will perform any and all other duties as assigned from time to time by the PI.
