Background
In alignment with AGO’s goal to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs) through market-relevant vocational skills, this 40-day training course on Detergents Industry aims to provide participants in Al-Kasra with practical and income-generating capabilities.
Based on the findings of the gender and disability-sensitive market assessment , small-scale detergent production was identified as a feasible and high-demand field for self-employment and micro-enterprise initiatives among PWDs, particularly for home-based or cooperative production.
Objectives of the Training
- Equip participants with knowledge of raw materials and formulations for detergent production.
- Train participants on preparing different cleaning products such as liquid soap, dishwashing liquid, disinfectants, and laundry detergents.
- Enhance understanding of safety, storage, and packaging standards.
- Introduce small business concepts for marketing homemade detergents.
- Promote independent income-generation and economic resilience for PWDs.
Training Methodology
- Theoretical Content:Â Covers the chemical basics of cleaning agents, safe handling of materials, product types, and production principles.
- Practical Workshops:Â Step-by-step product preparation with participant involvement, including mixing, bottling, labeling, and storage.
- Inclusive Learning Environment:Â Use of adapted tools and simplified instructions for PWDs, visual aids, and safety protocols.
- Trainer Preparation:Â Trainers will receive guidance on inclusive facilitation and working with persons with different disability types.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the training, participants are expected to:
- Understand the types and components of detergents.
- Safely produce a variety of household cleaning products.
- Follow safety and quality control procedures.
- Package and label products for home use or market sale.
- Begin micro-enterprise activities individually or in group settings.
Target Group
- Persons with disabilities (PWDs) residing in Al-Kasra, including displaced, host, and returnee populations.
- Priority will be given to individuals showing interest in home-based production or local market engagement.
Trainers’ Responsibilities
- Facilitate both theoretical instruction and guided practical sessions.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed rigorously.
- Adjust methods and materials to suit diverse learning needs.
- Support participants’ experimentation and confidence-building.
- Submit daily reports, track attendance, and provide feedback to the project team.
AGO Responsibilities
- Supply raw materials, containers, safety gear, and packaging tools.
- Provide accessible training space and logistical support.
- Monitor session quality and ensure disability inclusion.
- Conduct evaluation and follow-up with participants after course completion.
- Explore opportunities for post-training support (starter kits, market linkage, etc.).
Follow-up Mechanism
- Pre/Post Training Assessment:Â To measure progress in knowledge and practical abilities.
- Daily Attendance & Participation Monitoring.
- Feedback Forms: To collect participants’ input on the content, facilitation, and safety.
- Post-Training Support:Â Potential mentorship, seed support, or product showcasing for income generation.
