BACKGROUND

IsraAID is a non-governmental organization based in Israel, founded in 2001. Since its inception, it has worked in emergency and long-term development contexts in more than 55 countries. IsraAID’s mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crises, collaborating with local communities around the world to provide urgent assistance, support recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters.

Following the earthquakes in Venezuela, IsraAID has deployed a national emergency response team to Caracas to conduct rapid needs assessments and provide vital assistance, including emergency shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) services, and psychosocial support. Working closely with local authorities and partners, IsraAID is scaling up its operations to support affected communities and facilitate a community-centered recovery.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to support the WaSH team in various aspects of water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure, as well as in changing social behaviors related to sanitation and hygiene. This includes program design, construction supervision, quality control, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The selected candidate will report to the WaSH Program Manager.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project implementation

  • Support the WaSH specialist in coordinating WaSH technical activities, in accordance with the strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans.
  • Assist the WaSH specialist in the development of guidelines and technical tools.
  • Perform daily technical supervision of ongoing works.
  • Work closely with the WaSH specialist to promote the timely planning and implementation of all planned WaSH field activities.
  • Support the collection of WaSH periodic technical reports, program documents, activities, projections and expenditures.
  • Involve and inform communities and their leaders about WaSH activities.
  • Facilitate capacity-building sessions on sanitation and hygiene promotion in schools, health centers and at the community level.

Monitoring, evaluation and reporting

  • Work with the WaSH specialist and program teams to ensure the proper, timely, and accurate collection of data in accordance with agreed indicators, in order to facilitate the preparation of internal and external reports.
  • Lead conversations with communities and beneficiaries about program design and project review.
  • Conduct regular reviews and inform the WaSH team about any obstacles, recommending mitigation measures.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • University degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other relevant fields.
  • Minimum one year of progressive experience in the WaSH sector with an international non-governmental organization (ING) and/or a United Nations agency.
  • Having prior experience in supervising construction projects will be considered an advantage.

SKILLS

  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a demanding work environment with frequent critical deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and good numerical accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and design and modeling programs, such as AutoCAD and ArchiCAD.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
