Job description:
The WASH Technical Professional will be responsible for, among others, the following functions:
Design and planning:
- Conduct water, sanitation, and hygiene needs assessments and diagnoses in target locations and populations.
- Design WASH infrastructure projects that are technically feasible, culturally appropriate, and sustainable over time.
- Develop action plans, timelines, detailed budgets, and other WASH project planning tools.
- Support, in collaboration with the project team, training programs and educational materials on WASH topics.
- Participate in the search for funding and the development of proposals for new WASH projects.
Implementation:
- Coordinate and supervise the construction, rehabilitation, and improvement of water and sanitation infrastructure and systems, ensuring their quality for human consumption.
- Ensure that all projects are carried out in compliance with safety and quality standards, following the highest national and international standards.
- Coordinate with the finance and logistics departments the planning and execution of the purchasing plan, distribution of materials, equipment, and supplies for project activities.
- Provide technical support for the selection and acquisition of equipment/materials/labor/etc. for the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene projects.
- Actively participate in the preparation of technical documents, reports, and meetings related to the implementation of WASH projects.
- Create, train, and support WASH clubs/committees in the use and maintenance of the infrastructure installed in the organization’s projects.
Monitoring and evaluation:
- Develop and implement monitoring tools to evaluate the progress, results, and impact of WASH technical projects.
- Conduct quality control assessments during construction and activities to ensure compliance with technical standards and regulations.
- Oversee the development of water and sanitation infrastructure improvement/rehabilitation works in the organization’s projects.
- Prepare periodic execution reports on project progress, ensuring the collection and quality of verification media.
- Ensure that the policies and guidelines set out in Americares manuals and policies are followed and respected at all times, and that major technical decisions are made in consultation with the Americares HQ WASH Technical Advisor.
Coordination and collaboration:
- Work closely with the Programs area in Colombia and the Senior Technical Advisor at WASH HQ, as well as all areas of the organization and stakeholders relevant to your position.
- Promptly report any delays/problems that may arise and work with Programs to develop appropriate solutions.
- Identify opportunities for partnerships and WASH project development at the local, regional, and national levels.
- Participate in the meeting spaces convened by the WASH/Cluster tables.
- Perform other tasks related to the WASH area at the request of your immediate supervisor.
How to apply
Classifications:
- Professional qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, or similar. Postgraduate studies in WASH-related fields will be highly valued.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in water, sanitation, and hygiene projects, preferably in humanitarian and development contexts.
- Valid professional card to practice in the field of engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in the design, execution, and monitoring of projects/programs, especially in WASH hardware/infrastructure components and supervision of construction and works activities.
- Computer skills, especially in MS Office and engineering design programs (AutoCAD, Water CAD, EPANET, etc.).
- Practical knowledge of English (spoken and written) will be positively valued.
- Experience with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local associations and public entities.
- Experience in fieldwork and local capacity building with communities
- In-depth knowledge of national and international humanitarian and WASH standards.
- Ability to effectively utilize limited resources, adapt to changing project needs, and work in the field for extended periods of time.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in the preparation of specifications and contracting processes for works is desirable.
- Knowledge of community-led sanitation methodologies is desirable.
Type of contract: Fixed-term employment contract
Salary: $4,000,000 to $4,500,000
