The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries to provide appropriate, rights-based assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, and migrants. DRC has been present in Colombia since 2011, but in 2018 it expanded its operations in response to the Venezuelan crisis. Currently, DRC Colombia is implementing a protection-focused humanitarian response for Venezuelan refugees and migrants, as well as returning Colombians. It is currently expanding its activities to include Colombian cities such as Riohacha, Nariño, and Norte de Santander.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Protection Management, the incumbent will support the implementation of actions and activities to mainstream a gender perspective within the Mine Action Program (MAP) and Mine Risk Education (MRE). They will support the on-the-ground implementation of protection objectives within ongoing DRC projects, integrating a differentiated approach based on age, gender, and diversity, and identifying specific actions to mitigate gender-based violence (GBV) risks and/or prevent the perpetuation of patriarchal patterns in the territories, as well as to promote the integration of a gender perspective in all activities. The incumbent will also participate in other protection activities within the framework of joint actions of the DRC Nariño Protection Unit as required.
The successful candidate will develop and maintain good relationships with persons of interest, relevant stakeholders, institutional actors, and humanitarian actors to facilitate and adequately ensure DRC’s protection activities. Strong teamwork skills are also emphasized.
It will contribute to ensuring the quality of the planning, implementation and monitoring of protection activities in the municipalities of intervention.
Responsibilities:
•Implement the actions and activities of mainstreaming the gender approach in the intervention municipalities in accordance with the developed methodologies, the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the DRC’s age, gender and diversity policy (AGDM), under the coordination of the Protection Management and with the technical support of the area specialist and the protection officer (gender).
• Ensure the incorporation of the guiding principles of gender and GBV in the activities of ACM and ERM, under which the differential, intersectional and human rights approach is incorporated.
•Support the protection officer (gender) in the development and updating of the mapping of actors and available services, identifying new service offerings, in order to guarantee access to comprehensive care for the identified cases.
•Support the protection officer (gender) in the training and capacity-building spaces of the DRC ACM/ERM team.
• Implement support group activities for direct and indirect victims of Antipersonnel Mines (APMs), Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), promoting the emotional and psychological rehabilitation of people in these activities, providing first psychological help when necessary.
•Implement GBV prevention actions, through awareness activities on gender, GBV and related topics, in the intervention municipalities.
•Accompanying women’s circles in the intervention territories, aimed at promoting gender equality and mitigating the reproduction of gender stereotypes associated with care work and traditional gender roles within the home, based on the 3R approach (Recognize, Reduce and Redistribute) in unpaid care work.
•Maintain good relationships with people of interest, stakeholders and other external actors to support and facilitate the proper implementation of activities.
•Collect and properly manage information from persons of interest, ensuring confidentiality, protection of personal data, informed consent (where applicable), and timely and accurate registration in DRC’s databases and information systems, in accordance with internal procedures for reporting activities.
•Contribute to the development and contextualization of methodologies, protocols and technical tools, including methodologies for group sessions, support groups, women’s circles, as well as the material required for each of the activities.
•Maintain constant communication and coordination with the protection officer (gender), the Protection Management and the technical team, to ensure efficient planning and guarantee the quality and consistency of protection interventions in the intervention municipalities, in line with the overall strategy and ongoing or proposed projects.
•Participate in the implementation of general protection activities in accordance with agreed objectives and identified needs.
• Actively participate in team meetings and technical follow-up sessions with the area specialist, as well as in training and feedback processes, contributing input, challenges and lessons learned to strengthen the quality of legal aid and protection actions.
•Other assigned functions that are considered necessary for the execution of the position.

- Report to the immediate supervisor the need to take corrective or preventive actions, as appropriate, in the face of actual or potential nonconformities of the process to which it belongs.
- Participate in training activities, drills, and those scheduled by occupational safety and health.
- Participate and contribute to the fulfillment of the SG-SST policy and objectives.
EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in community work, social work, human rights, prevention of gender-based violence, care for people at risk and survivors of GBV, work with OSIEGD people
• Knowledge of the context and humanitarian situation of the department of Nariño.
• Knowledge of differential approaches (AGD) and working with ethnic communities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent skills in MS Word and Excel
• Willingness and ability to learn
Desirable:
- Field experience and experience working with refugees, migrants, internally displaced persons, and ethnic communities.
- Experience in psychological first aid and psychosocial support.
- Of a calm and diplomatic nature.
- Good teamwork; ability to create a good atmosphere.
- English proficiency is an advantage
Requirements in terms of academic training and technical knowledge:
- Undergraduate degree with a specialization in Social Sciences and Education (Social Work, Psychology, Pedagogy, Bachelor’s Degree, Sociology and related fields)
Languages:
