Founded in 2000, Free the Slaves (FTS) is a pioneer and leader in the global effort to eradicate slavery. Our mission is to liberate those in slavery and change the conditions that allow slavery to persist. Position Title: Communications Intern – Conversations on Modern Slavery Podcast
Location: Remote or Washington, D.C. (Hybrid Optional)
Internship Term: January–June 2026
Hours: Part-time (approx. 10–15 hours/week)
Compensation: Unpaid
Position Overview
The Communications Intern will play a key role in supporting the production and promotion of Conversations on Modern Slavery, a signature podcast by Free the Slaves that takes listeners inside the global fight to end modern slavery. Each episode features powerful conversations with survivor leaders, researchers, frontline advocates, and policy experts—exploring root causes, exposing current challenges, and elevating bold solutions. Whether amplifying stories or promoting insights that inspire action, the intern will gain hands-on experience in digital storytelling, content creation, and nonprofit advocacy communications within a mission-driven team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning podcast episode themes and guest outreach
- Coordinate logistics for recording sessions (scheduling, confirmations, prep materials)
- Support audio editing and transcription processes
- Draft and schedule promotional content for social media, newsletters, and the FTS website
- Conduct background research to inform episode scripts or guest interviews
- Track performance metrics and help optimize content for reach and engagement
- Maintain digital files and help organize podcast archives
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong interest in human rights, social justice, and anti-trafficking advocacy
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Familiarity with podcast production tools (e.g., Adobe Podcast, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, Spotify Podcast Platform, Youtube) is a plus
- Basic design or video editing skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) are desirable
- Experience with social media YouTubemanagement (Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently
- Able to work effectively in multicultural, multilingual teams
