About the role

Reporting in to the Finance Officer in Bukavu, the Finance Intern will be responsible for all financial, fiscal and administrative matters of the Bukavu Office.

The postholder will ensure Christian Aid finance policies are complied with at all times and donors’ requirements are adhered to. You will also manage the administration of the local office in line with Christian Aid Policies and applicable DRC Laws.

Some of the main areas of responsibility for the Finance Intern include:

  • Manage all Financial operations in Bukavu, including office petty cash and in accordance with Christian Aid’s cash-keeping procedures and policies.
  • Encode daily all the financial operations of the Bukavu database in the accounting software
  • Manage the liquidity of the Bukavu office to maintain its solvency, in particular by preparing and submitting the monthly forecast (Cash flow request) to the national office, according to the established schedule.
  • Hold, complete and make payments in cash, by check or by transfer order, ensuring that payments have been duly authorized
  • Keep up to date with the evolution of the DRC’s tax regulations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly cash count.
  • Maintain working relations with the bank and tax administration institutions.
  • Ensure that the asset register is regularly updated
  • Prepare expense reports, debit note to be submitted for review and approval to the Finance Officer, and collect Christian Aid owed from creditors.
  • Ensure that the office adheres to CA to define financial systems.
  • Assists program staff in assessing the financial capacity of potential partners.
  • Works closely with the Program team to ensure optimal planning and delivery of program activities.

About you

Who we are looking for

Essential:

  • Accounting Qualifications (Bachelor Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related disciplines).
  • Knowledge of DRC Tax regulations and legal environment.
  • No experience is needed with this role
  • Familiarity with donors (UN, DFID, EU, Irish Aid ) processes and requirements

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of local context and stakeholders
  • Good communication in French and English (Written and spoken)
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small close-knit team.
  • Sensitivity to differences in culture and nationality with the ability to work closely with colleagues from across the world with a range of professional backgrounds
  • Excellent planning, time management and organizational abilities.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently to agreed goals and targets
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing circumstances and needs of the role, including flexibility in working hours to ensure coordination with key colleagues in different locations and time zones.
  • Able to work under pressure.

About the position

Under the supervision of the Finance Officer in Bukavu , the Finance Intern will contribute to the management of financial, fiscal and administrative operations of the Bukavu office.

The incumbent will ensure compliance with Christian Aid’s financial policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements. They will also contribute to the sound administrative management of the local office, in accordance with Christian Aid policies and the legislation in force in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Main responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Finance Intern will include the following tasks:

  • Manage the financial operations of the Bukavu office, including petty cash, in accordance with Christian Aid’s cash management policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that all financial transactions have the required supporting documentation and are properly classified and archived.
  • Keep yourself informed of changes in tax regulations and applicable legal obligations in the DRC.
  • Prepare and submit monthly cash controls and statements.
  • Maintain good working relationships with banks, tax authorities and other relevant institutions.
  • Ensure that the fixed asset register is regularly updated.
  • Prepare expense reports and debit notes to be submitted to the Finance Officer for verification and approval, and follow up on amounts owed to Christian Aid.
  • Ensure that the Bukavu office complies with the financial systems, procedures and controls defined by Christian Aid.
  • Support the Programme team in assessing the financial capacity of potential partners.
  • Work closely with the Program team to ensure effective financial planning and optimal implementation of program activities.

  • University degree (Bachelor’s) in finance, accounting, economics or a related discipline.
  • Good knowledge of tax regulations and the legal environment of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • No prior professional experience is required for this position.
  • Knowledge of the procedures and requirements of the main institutional donors, including the United Nations, DFID, the European Union and Irish Aid.
