Purpose:
The Humanitarian Response Communications Specialist position has both a technical and strategic dimension, aimed at ensuring comprehensive documentation of the response through the systematic collection of information in the field and the production of audiovisual materials (photography and video) that ethically and securely reflect the impact of the projects. This involves developing key messages, writing life stories, newsletters, and other communication products aligned with humanitarian standards, as well as designing and laying out materials and campaigns that strengthen the visibility and impact of the intervention. It also includes active representation in humanitarian communication forums and coordination spaces with partners, ensuring narrative coherence and institutional positioning, and maintaining ongoing communication with the field team, internal teams, and humanitarian actors in the intervention areas for the strategic management of content.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Project Documentation and Materials Collection
– Systematically, in a planned and ethical manner, collect qualitative and quantitative information, testimonies, life stories, and evidence of humanitarian work in the field, ensuring informed consent, confidentiality, and compliance with humanitarian principles, protection and safeguarding standards, and the “do no harm” approach, as well as applicable institutional policies and donor guidelines.
– Document the activities, interventions, and results of the humanitarian project, ensuring that all material complies with humanitarian principles, protection and safeguarding standards, informed consent, and responsible image management, especially when it involves children, adolescents, and other vulnerable populations.
– Organize, classify, and safeguard the physical and digital archive of project multimedia materials, guaranteeing their secure storage, traceability, and responsible use, in strict compliance with informed consent protocols, personal data protection, safeguarding, and applicable humanitarian guidelines.
– Identifies, analyzes, and validates success stories and impact narratives generated within the framework of the humanitarian response, ensuring their relevance, rights-based approach, and consistency with protection principles, for subsequent adaptation and strategic dissemination to diverse audiences (communities, donors, partners, and coordination bodies), always adhering to criteria of informed consent, confidentiality, and the principle of “do no harm.”
– Coordinates continuously with field teams and technical areas to gather updated, verified, and contextualized information on the progress, challenges, and results of the intervention, ensuring technical consistency in messaging, alignment with humanitarian principles, and timely communication that contributes to accountability and the strategic positioning of the project.
– Prepares periodic reports on the communication activities and results of the humanitarian project, systematizing developed products, scope, dissemination metrics, and key lessons learned, in accordance with institutional and donor requirements, and contributing to accountability, traceability, and continuous improvement of the communication strategy in the response.
2. Audiovisual Production: Video and Photography
– Plan, record, and edit short videos and documentaries about the humanitarian response for different platforms and audiences.
– Conduct field photography during community visits, distributions, protection activities, health initiatives, and other project interventions.
– Operate recording, photography, and editing equipment (camera, basic drones, editing software such as Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Capcut, or equivalent).
– Produce audiovisual content adapted for social media, donor reports, institutional presentations, and advocacy materials.
– Ensure the technical and narrative quality of the audiovisual products produced.
– Ensure compliance with consent, safeguarding, and data protection policies when photographing beneficiaries, especially children and adolescents.
3. Development of Key Messages and Communication Products
– Develops and maintains up-to-date key messages for the humanitarian project, adapted to different audiences: donors, communities, media, and partners.
– Writes information notes, press releases, articles, newsletters, and situation updates (communication SitReps).
– Develops content for social media, websites, and institutional channels related to the emergency response.
– Adapts communication materials from regional or global campaigns to the humanitarian context of Honduras.
– Contributes to the development of narrative reports for donors with a communication focus.
4. Layout and Design of Communication Products
– Designs and lays out communication materials: infographics, posters, brochures, project fact sheets, presentations, digital and print banners.
– Uses graphic design tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva for the production of communication pieces.
– Ensures that all designed materials comply with institutional brand guidelines and visual identity guidelines.
– Produces materials adapted to different formats: digital, print, social media, multimedia presentations.
– Collaborates with program teams and other partners for the joint production of humanitarian communication materials.
5. Participation in Humanitarian and Partner Communications Roundtables
– Represents the organization at communications roundtables within the humanitarian system in Honduras.
– Actively participates in sectoral humanitarian communications working groups, contributing materials, messages, and joint initiatives.
– Establishes and maintains relationships with communications focal points from implementing partners, UN agencies, and NGOs.
– Coordinates the production of joint communications materials with humanitarian partners.
– Informs the internal team about agreements, materials, and messages reached in humanitarian coordination forums.
– Ensures consistency between the organization’s messaging and messages collectively agreed upon within the humanitarian ecosystem.
6. Public Relations and Media Management
– Generates press releases, reports, and publications on the humanitarian response in Honduras.
– Handles media inquiries related to the emergency.
– Supports the coordination of interviews with institutional spokespeople and prepares materials in conjunction with the country’s Communications and Public Relations Specialist.
– Monitors media coverage of the humanitarian response and prepares follow-up reports.
7. Institutional Positioning and Brand Compliance
– Ensures compliance with institutional brand guidelines in all materials produced.
– Supports the organization’s positioning as a relevant and committed humanitarian actor in Honduras.
– Implements communication actions aligned with the organization’s disaster communications manual.
– Complies with institutional policies, especially those related to child protection, data protection, and ethical communication in humanitarian contexts.

Ensures that Plan International’s global safeguarding policy and PII’s policy to prevent harassment, exploitation, and sexual abuse; and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully integrated in accordance with the policy principles and requirements, including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of ​​responsibility. TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
Academic Background:
– University degree in Communications, Journalism, Audiovisual Production, Graphic Design, Public Relations, or a related field.
– Desirable: Training or certifications in humanitarian communication, communication for development, or related areas.
Experience:
– Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, audiovisual production, or journalism, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
– Verifiable experience in video recording and editing (with a portfolio of work).
– Experience in field photography, including work in vulnerable communities.
– Experience in the design and layout of communication materials.
– Desirable: Previous experience coordinating with humanitarian actors (clusters, OCHA, partners) in Honduras or other emergency contexts.
– Desirable: Experience in risk or emergency communication (natural disasters, humanitarian crisis response).
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
– Proficiency in video editing software: Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent (essential).

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
WORK ENVIRONMENT
On-site work in Honduras with travel within the country for field visits, documentation of humanitarian activities, and coverage of project activities. Availability to work in emergency conditions is required, including flexible hours and possible travel to affected areas.
LEVEL OF CONTACT WITH CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
High level of contact: The person in this role will make frequent visits to project beneficiary communities, where they will document activities that directly involve children and adolescents. All documentation work with this population must be carried out in strict compliance with the organization’s Safeguarding policies, informed consent protocols, and ethical communication guidelines.
