Since 2000, Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM) has been working to combat the death penalty worldwide. The association promotes the universal abolition of the death penalty through advocacy with public authorities, strengthening abolitionist civil society, creating and disseminating publications, supporting those sentenced to death, and educating about the abolition of the death penalty in France and abroad.
ECPM unites abolitionists to increase efficiency and accelerate the movement toward the universal abolition of the death penalty. The association is behind the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty and the World Congresses Against the Death Penalty. Since the first World Congress in Strasbourg in 2001, ECPM has organized it every three years (Montreal in 2004, Paris in 2007, Geneva in 2010, Madrid in 2013, Oslo in 2016, Brussels in 2019, and Berlin in 2022) in the presence of abolitionists from around the world (civil society, political figures and international organizations, journalists, etc.).
World Congresses Against the Death Penalty aim to strengthen the work of local stakeholders, initiate and develop joint strategies, encourage states to make concrete commitments, and raise awareness and mobilize citizens in favor of abolition. They bring together, on average, more than a thousand people from over 140 countries, around a hundred political delegations, and receive international media coverage.
As part of the organization of the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty which will take place in Paris from June 30 to July 2, 2026, ECPM is looking for an intern to support the development of the academic program consisting of 2 plenary sessions, 4 or 5 round tables and around ten workshops.
