The Country Director (DP) is the person most responsible for ACTION AGAINST HUNGER in the region, which includes Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras. In coordination with the Geographic Manager, she ensures good resource management to achieve the strategic objectives of the mission. He ensures the definition and monitoring of the strategy, maintaining the quality and relevance of the actions carried out, always within the organization’s mandate.

The DP represents ACCION CONTRA EL HAMBRE before financiers, authorities, international organizations, other non-governmental organizations, the private sector and any institution of interest. He is the spokesperson for ACCION AGAINST HUNGER before national and international media, in coordination of the Communication Area.

The DP is responsible for ensuring the financial viability of the mission in coordination with headquarters and ensuring efficient management of available resources. He directs the implementation of the public and private fundraising strategy designed in coordination with the headquarters for his country and is responsible for promoting innovative technical approaches and promoting the systematization of good practices and their replicability.

The PD, through his/her leadership, motivates his/her team, anticipates and manages possible conflicts, encourages innovative approaches and supervises the coordination team.

The DP is responsible for risk management and security in the mission, promotes, encourages and supervises the application of the ACTION AGAINST HUNGER charter of principles, as well as its code of ethics and anti-fraud policy.

The main activities you will perform are the following:

  • REPRESENTATION AND POSITIONING: Maintain and expand the positioning of the organization in the region; Represent the organization before key stakeholders (authorities, partners, donors, media) and internationally in accordance with the mandate, the charter of principles and within the strategic framework of ACTION AGAINST HUNGER; Ensure the active participation of the organization in the humanitarian coordination system in the region and in all relevant coordination spaces; Ensure the timely and quality completion of documents and other internal and external communication products.
  • DEFINITION AND MONITORING OF THE STRATEGY MISSION: Define and execute, in coordination with your team and with the geographical manager, the Action Against Hunger intervention strategy in the region, in accordance with the organization’s mandate and the analysis of needs and opportunities ; Carry out permanent monitoring of the context, centralize information and propose adjustments to achieve objectives; Define and monitor the financing plan of the mission strategy and guide the resources for its implementation (public and private); Establish/maintain the relationship with key stakeholders; Define programmatic priorities in coordination with your team.
  • STRUCTURE AND OPERATION: Define with headquarters the structure to achieve the objectives of the mission based on the priorities identified in the strategy and financing plan (positions, profiles, work processes); Ensure good general management of the team, applying the organization’s policies and work processes; Detect and resolve potential conflicts; Maintain and reinforce the dynamics of unity, coherence and motivation of the team; Ensure internal communication of the mission.
  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Ensure good operational and financial management of the mission, in collaboration with your team and headquarters; Guarantee efficiency in the use of resources and the achievement of annual objectives; Guide and support the Financial Department in the global management of mission resources. Monitor the financial situation and, based on the strategy and objectives set, make the relevant decisions in collaboration with your team and headquarters.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT: Ensure the application of appropriate measures to mitigate legal, reputational, financial and mission security risks; Ensure respect for the organization’s principles and values, particularly with regard to the code of conduct and the fight against fraud, corruption, abuse and other bad practices; Report in a timely manner any violation of our protocols and policies, according to established procedures; Guarantee respect for legal obligations in the country; Analyze the risks to the security of the mission and adapt the operation and internal measures of the mission to the security situation;

Does this description fit you?

  • Proven experience in: institutional relations and representation; management of high-level multidisciplinary teams; identification, negotiation and management of development and humanitarian action programs
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an international NGO in a general management position and with proven experience in high-level negotiations and representation.
  • Studies, preferably on topics linked to international cooperation and development; High knowledge of the humanitarian and international cooperation environment
  • Spokesperson capacity; LANGUAGES: Spanish and English
  • General knowledge of the organization and its intervention sectors; Experience in Latin America and knowledge of immigration issues will be positively valued.

  • Contract: Indefinite (minimum commitment 2 years)
