HEALING – INNOVATING – TOGETHER: Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has reached more than 18 million beneficiaries in 15 countries, primarily in Africa. In 2024, we developed 59 humanitarian medical response projects to address the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics, and extreme poverty. All of these projects are carried out in support of national health authorities through healthcare facilities (including hospitals and health centers). Our work stems from a constant adaptation to the realities on the ground and advances in medicine. In 2024, ALIMA reached 5.9 million beneficiaries. We work in partnership, particularly with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from expertise wherever it is found, whether in their own country or elsewhere in the world. Furthermore, to improve the humanitarian response, we are conducting operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the area of ​​combating malnutrition and viral hemorrhagic fevers.

THE ALIMA TEAM: More than 2,000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, working closest to patients, receive support from the coordination teams, generally based in the capital cities of the countries where they operate. These teams are supported by the four desk teams and the emergency and openings team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The teams in Paris and New York actively work on fundraising and representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA network includes individuals and partner teams working for other organizations such as the medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins/KEOOGO, and AMCP; the research organizations PACCI, INSERM, and INRB; the Universities of Bordeaux and Copenhagen; the NGO Solidarités International; and many others.

OUR PROJECT THEMES: Malnutrition, Sexual and reproductive health including gender-based violence, Primary and secondary health, surgery, pediatric care, deadly diseases such as Malaria, ARI, Diarrhea, Epidemics (Hemorrhagic fevers, meningitis, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Covid-19).

OUR COUNTRIES OF INTERVENTION: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea, South Sudan, Senegal, Mauritania and Sudan.

INV Project

The Nutrition-Vaccination Integration (INI) project , to be implemented in two countries, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger, over a period of three years, aims to simultaneously address two of the leading causes of infant mortality in sub-Saharan Africa: malnutrition and infectious diseases. These two problems are mutually reinforcing: malnutrition increases vulnerability to infections, while infectious diseases worsen children’s nutritional status, creating a vicious cycle that jeopardizes their survival and development.

To break this cycle, the INV approach integrates the distribution of small-quantity lipid nutritional supplements (SQ-LNS) into routine immunization services for children aged 6 to 23 months. This strategy simultaneously strengthens child nutrition, improves immunization coverage, and reduces mortality through a single delivery platform that is more accessible to families.

SQ-LNS are ready-to-use nutritional supplements with widely demonstrated efficacy. They help reduce infant mortality, anemia, wasting, stunting, and developmental delays. Their use is recommended by the World Health Organization in food-insecure contexts.

The INV approach also draws on encouraging results from trials conducted in Africa. The NutriVax study in Nigeria showed that combining SQ-LNS with routine immunization significantly increased measles vaccination coverage and reduced the number of children who received no vaccine (zero-dose). Promising results are also being observed in ongoing trials in Chad and Niger.

In this context, the Gates Foundation is supporting this new project to scale up the Integrated Nutrition and Immunization (INV) strategy in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger to assess the impact of this integrated approach on immunization coverage and children’s health. The project assists governments in implementing integrated delivery models, tailored to national priorities, to sustainably strengthen nutrition and immunization programs and improve the survival and development of young children.

The overall objective is to reduce infant mortality and morbidity by integrating nutrition and vaccination activities to improve vaccination coverage and nutritional status of children aged 6 to 18 months.

The specific objectives are as follows:

  • The joint administration of the SQ-LNS strategy and routine vaccinations in order to achieve a dual impact on health: a reduction in malnutrition and an increase in vaccination coverage.
  • To establish a scalable operational and financial model that can be replicated in other regions
  • Strengthen government ownership and co-financing to enable expansion without support from external actors.
  • Develop a roadmap for the local or regional production of SQ-LNS

This program aims to reach approximately 175,000 children (in total) over three years in Niger and 185,000 children in the DRC.

JOB LOCATION: Based in Dakar, Senegal with regular visits to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger (2/3 times per year).

FUNCTIONAL AND HIERARCHICAL LINKS

  • He reports managerially to the INI Project Manager and functionally to the Deputy Director of Operations in charge of Logistics or the Logistics Desk 1 Liaison.
  • He works with all members of Desk 1 and the nutrition expert, and collaborates with headquarters departments and country logistics experts.

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Reporting to the INI Project Manager and working closely with the Deputy Director of Operations in charge of logistics, their main mission is to ensure international procurement and provide the necessary support to the countries regarding the Supply component of the INI project’s implementation and scaling up. They are responsible for monitoring and overseeing procurement in both countries.

  • He/she has the following responsibilities in collaboration with the institutions involved in procurement matters:
  • Ensure the monitoring of the project’s supply at the international level;
  • Ensure the implementation in both countries of a supply plan for SQ LNS and vaccines in conjunction with the national partner
  • Monitoring and updating the supply plan
  • Contribute to the quantification of national needs
  • Develop an action plan and monitor its implementation to ensure an effective transfer of skills to national stakeholders at the end of the project.
  • Communicate regularly with the logistics, medical and financial departments regarding supplies;
  • Ensure compliance with landlord and internal procedures during purchasing.
  • Ensure the availability of technical product documents (catalogues, descriptive sheets);
  • Document and consolidate all knowledge relating to supply in its environment (type of goods available, maintenance resources, customs procedures, freight forwarders, taxes and exemptions, conduct and customs clearance, Import/Export, other actors…);
  • Mastering donor procedures according to the type of supply and ensuring their proper application;
  • To be responsible for the proper archiving of supply documents (organizes the archiving);
  • Ensure the planning of international orders with the Project Country logistics contacts;
  • Ensure that the country logistics coordinators properly oversee obtaining import authorizations from the national authorities.
  • Conduct regular quantification exercises,
  • Document customs clearance procedures with country logistics contacts and ensure that documents are kept up to date;
  • Supporting country logistics representatives in their dealings with the relevant regulatory authorities regarding regulations related to SQ LNS
  • Provide support to country logistics coordinators on inventory tracking and management
  • Supporting countries in organizing national workshops to take into account supply aspects in scaling up the project
  • Support country teams in drafting a national manual or reference document to be submitted to the authorities at the end of the project to serve as a guide for the procurement component within the framework of scaling up (access to vaccines and SQ LNS).

EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

Experience

  • Advanced training (Master’s level) in Pharmacy/Supply chain, Humanitarian Logistics
  • Experience in managing the logistics of medical projects
  • Experience in a medical NGO of at least 3 years.
  • Experience in team management and supervision
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in purchasing and supply chain management of healthcare products.
  • Desired experience:
  • Experience in the implementation and supervision of activities related to national public health programs on nutrition and primary healthcare topics in particular;
  • Experience working in a team;
  • Experience in managing the supply chain for a humanitarian program;
  • Mastering the flow and organization of supplies for a mission.

Required qualities

  • Mastery of customs clearance procedures for international orders. (Formalities to observe, actions to take, the process to follow);
  • Knowledge of the procedures of international donors
  • Mastery of the actors and procedures of national supply.
  • Mastery of drug quantification techniques
  • Methodology for analyzing supply and inventory management systems
  • High degree of autonomy in managing the supply chain;
  • Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, manage various activities in a time-constrained environment, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
  • Rigour, responsiveness, flexibility.
  • Proficiency in computer tools, in particular the Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook…).

TERMS

Contract duration: Contract governed by Senegalese law, fixed-term contract of 18 months renewable, with a renewable 3-month probationary period

Start date: September 2026

Salary: according to the salary scale in effect at ALIMA
