Do you want to join an activist association and take concrete action for greater social justice?
Doctors of the World has been working for over 40 years to treat the most vulnerable populations, denounce obstacles to access to care and bring about lasting changes in health policies.
In France and in nearly 30 other countries, our actions are structured around six political battles:
- sexual and reproductive health and rights (including the right to abortion)
- migration, exile, rights and health
- risk reduction
- health and environment
- rights and the health system
- humanitarian spaces
Why we need you
Emergency response to crises, conflicts, and natural disasters is one of Doctors of the World’s priority areas of intervention. Our financial independence, the strength of our partnerships, and the commitment and flexibility of our teams are all key elements in providing an effective response to these disasters.
The mandate of the Emergency Response Unit is to intervene primarily in emergencies and crises occurring in countries where MdM is already operational (30 countries). Emergency response in countries where MdM is not present is systematically considered if access to the continuum of care is disrupted and if the capacities of the country and local actors are overwhelmed.
MdM also provides operational and technical support and expertise to the missions of the geographic hubs on their emergency responses.
You are part of the Emergency Response Unit’s rapid response team, which is deployed in emergency situations to launch new interventions and/or reinforce existing teams. You may also be deployed to participate in exploratory missions, help open new missions and/or bases, support existing MdM operations/missions through gap-filling, or assist in the implementation of specific activities related to logistics (e.g., training, preparation, etc.).
Your tasks
Your main responsibilities are:
- To lead the mission’s logistics strategy and ensure its implementation
- Coordinate and supervise all logistics activities: supply chain, vehicle fleet, inventory management, equipment, buildings, IT infrastructure, communication resources and energy
- To motivate and strengthen the team’s capabilities
- Also support the general coordinator in monitoring security procedures
- Ensure compliance with and proper application of MdM and donor procedures, and contribute to guaranteeing the quality, efficiency and conformity of logistics services within the mission, while working to prevent and combat fraud and corruption.
The division of working time between field and headquarters is estimated at 80%-20%.
The duration of a field deployment is a maximum of three (3) months, and is followed by a recovery period.
Your colleagues
You will work under the supervision of the Emergency Response Unit Manager based at headquarters. When deployed in the field, you will report directly to the General Coordinator of the mission. You will have a working relationship with the Logistics Officer based at headquarters. You will collaborate with the Support Coordinators, as well as with the Humanitarian Access & Risk Officer and the program teams.
PROFILE
You are the right person if:
- You have a higher education qualification (2 years post-high school) in purchasing or logistics
- You have 5 years of professional experience (including a minimum of 1 year in a logistics coordination role in the humanitarian sector or a minimum of 2 years of experience as a logistics officer)
- You have a strong resistance to stress and an ability to adapt in complex security environments.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office.
- You are fluent in both written and spoken English and French.
This position is not for you if:
- Flexibility and adaptability are not among your strongest qualities; frequent travel and regular team changes pose difficulties for you.
- You are afraid that you do not identify with the values and activist stance of Doctors of the World.
