About the Team

Nutrition International has been working in Indonesia since 2006 as an expert ally to the government in implementing health and nutrition initiatives for vulnerable communities. Nutrition International advocates for greater attention and resources for micronutrient programming and provides funding and technical assistance to the government to design and implement nutrition programs, seeking to make them more efficient and integrated with the health system, and sustainable for long-term reach and impact. This position of Advocacy & Communications Manager has pivotal role in achieving these efforts. The Manager will work in close collaboration with the program and technical teams in country office, with technical guidance from Advocacy & Communications lead in Asia, to position Nutrition International as a partner of choice in Indonesia’s national nutrition agenda.

You will come with

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of work experience in advocacy, government relations, strategic communications or any other related field with Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Communications, International Development, International Relations, Public Affairs, Political Science, or a related field.
  • You will come with strong contacts and relationships with government in Indonesia is strongly preferred. Familiarity in working with the Ministry of Health and BAPENNAS is an asset.
  • Previous background in public health and nutrition is highly preferred along with proven experience of producing high-quality communications products and overseeing events; managing strategic relationships with government, partners and donors and PR agencies.
  • Broad understanding of the political, health and development context in Indonesia. Detailed understanding of regulatory and legislative processes in Indonesia is highly preferred.
  • A deep knowledge of the Indonesian policy landscape with exceptional communication and relationship building and management skills with core competency in public affairs, government relations, policy advocacy, partnerships and strategic communications and outreach.
  • Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required for the role.

About the role

Reporting to the Country Director, this position serves as the primary architect of Nutrition International’s external engagement strategy in-country—translating complex nutrition evidence into compelling policy narratives, sustaining trusted relationships with government counterparts and strategic partners, and ensuring our work achieves the visibility and influence needed to drive systemic change at scale. In this role you will be responsible to:

  • Develop and lead the advocacy strategy for Nutrition International in Indonesia at national and sub-national levels, leveraging key opportunities and events.
  • Lead external engagement and government relations in Indonesia, participating in high-level donor, partner and government meetings with the Country Director (CD).
  • Identify, build and nurture strategic partnerships at the national and sub-national levels with government, donors, development partners, academic institutions, civil society and media to advance Nutrition International’s advocacy objectives and build its profile and visibility.
  • Monitor the funding landscape, track donor priorities and identify fundraising and resource mobilization opportunities at country level, working in partnership with Nutrition International’s regional and global team.
  • Lead on media engagement through direct media connections and/or by managing PR agencies/consultants to prepare key messages, press releases, crisis communications, and ensure positive brand and voice building for Nutrition International in Indonesia.
  • Build visibility for Nutrition International’s work in Indonesia through stories/articles on the official website, social media engagement, and by developing and coordinating the production of high-quality communications and outreach products (i.e. factsheets, policy briefs, impact stories, social media, internal newsletter content, etc.).
