Program Coordinator At Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries to provide appropriate, rights-based assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, and migrants. DRC has been present in Colombia since 2011, but in 2018 it expanded its operations in response to the Venezuelan crisis. Currently, DRC Colombia is implementing a protection-focused humanitarian response for Venezuelan refugees and migrants, as well as Colombian returnees, in Colombian cities such as Riohacha, Barranquilla, and Bogotá. It is also currently expanding its activities to Nariño and Norte de Santander.

General objective of the position: Under the supervision of the Program Manager, supports the implementation of DRC’s humanitarian program in Colombia, the development of the country strategy, donor relations, and coordination with other humanitarian actors .

Responsibilities:

Programmatic and strategic development

  • Support the development of new humanitarian interventions, including in the design of proposals, budgets and alignment with the DRC country strategy.
  • Work in coordination with technical coordinators for Protection, Economic Recovery, Emergency Response and the MEAL manager to develop integrated and coherent programmatic initiatives
  • Identify needs and support the implementation of joint humanitarian needs assessments in DRC intervention areas and new areas (where relevant)
  • Support the program management in representing DRC in humanitarian coordination spaces.
  • Support the program director and other members of the program unit in coordinating project review exercises and field consultations for the development of projects and strategic initiatives.

Coordination

  • Support the Program Director in coordinating the unit, identifying support needs for the teams, priorities in implementation and anticipation of programmatic risks;
  • Support the Program Director and the agreements unit in identifying funding opportunities in line with DRC’s country strategy.
  • Promote effective communication and coordination among all areas of the program unit

Project management

  • Support area managers in the efficient implementation of projects in accordance with work plans, goals, and financial execution forecasts.
  • Support in the preparation and review of project reports.
  • Participate and support the launch, review and closing meetings of humanitarian projects.

Experience and technical skills:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in similar positions (coordination, project management) in humanitarian organizations.
  • Experience in designing projects and budgets for international humanitarian donors
  • Experience in coordinating between various actors and geographical areas (area managers, sector managers, technical coordinators, agreements, support units, etc.)
  • Experience in actively and strategically participating in humanitarian coordination groups at the national level (ELC, Cluster, etc.).
  • Experience in developing humanitarian emergency response strategies and durable solutions.
  • Programmatic knowledge of most of the following humanitarian intervention sectors: Livelihoods, Protection, WASH, Food Security, Shelter and NFIs.
  • Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.

Education

Master’s degree in political science, economics, statistics, international cooperation, humanitarian assistance, or other similar fields.

Languages

  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English
