Recreation Program Manager At Lifting Hands International

Lifting Hands International is looking for a Recreation Program Manager to join our team in Greece, starting at the end of March 2026, with a minimum six-month commitment. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ asylum seekers and refugees at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Role Profile

The Recreation Program offers recreational activities and classes using a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and community-led approach. The program includes open social spaces with board games and outdoor sports, as well as a structured schedule of indoor classes such as sports, yoga, fitness, music, and art. Activities are open to teens and adults from the camp communities and are facilitated by both community volunteers (camp residents who are part of the LHI team) and visiting volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

As Recreation Program Manager, you will:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the recreation space and all scheduled activities
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and other program managers to support visiting and community volunteers in delivering psychosocial support activities, including both ongoing programming and one-off activities (e.g., workshops, tournaments, trainings)
  • Lead and support a diverse team of volunteers, encouraging community volunteers in leadership roles and active facilitation of activities
  • Facilitate regular team meetings and create weekly activity schedules
  • Provide program introductions, training sessions, and regular one-on-one check-ins for volunteers
  • Work with the Community Engagement Program Manager to promote community volunteer ownership and autonomy
  • Collaborate with the Female Friendly Space Program Manager to support female-focused programming
  • Assess community needs and interests, actively involving participants and volunteers in shaping relevant activities
  • Gather feedback and conduct needs assessments to inform program development and ensure alignment with LHI’s vision
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports outlining activities, participation, and outcomes
  • Track attendance, manage budgets, oversee inventory, and coordinate logistics to maintain consistent program quality

Essential Criteria

  • Proactive and able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Previous humanitarian experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience teaching classes (e.g., yoga, fitness, sports, music, arts) using a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and community-led approach
  • Understanding of psychosocial support (PSS) program implementation
  • Previous experience leading and managing teams
  • Ability to handle safeguarding concerns with professionalism and care
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a large, multicultural team
  • Fluent in English
  • Minimum six-month commitment

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant degree(s) in a related field.
  • Ability to commit 6–12 months.
  • International driver’s license.
