Senior Communications Officer (Local/International) At UNOPS

Under the guidance and direct primary supervision of the Senior Project Manager and the secondary supervision of the Communications Specialist in the Guatemala office, you will be responsible for providing communications advice to the Program for the Second Phase of the Master Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of the Hospital Network (INFRAIGSS), and/or other projects when required.

The Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for the following functions:

  • Develop and implement the communications strategy for the INFRAIGSS Program, and/or other projects when required, in alignment with the Regional Communications Strategy, the National Portfolio Development Strategy, and the UNOPS Strategic Plan.
  • Building a country-appropriate narrative consistent with UNOPS’ communication style and strategy for the INFRAIGSS Program and/or other projects when required.
  • Generate communication products about the INFRAIGSS Program with a strategic focus for UNOPS that can support portfolio development efforts in other countries: fact sheets, talking points, videos, among others.
  • Prepare and maintain the project’s key messages, ensuring the inclusion of key elements on the triple planetary crisis in the INFRAIGSS Program’s communications and/or other projects when required.
  • Promote the incorporation of resilience themes and gender and inclusion approaches in all of the program’s communication actions.
  • Support the implementation of the UNOPS communications strategy in Guatemala, as requested by the country’s Communications Specialist.
  • Collaborate with the Guatemala Program and Project Management Office in reviewing the monitoring and compliance of the project’s communications plans.

Requirements:

A. Education

  • Higher University Degree (Master’s Degree) preferably in Journalism, Communication, Social Communication, Public Relations or another related discipline.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the above-mentioned areas, in combination with a minimum of seven (4) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a higher university degree.

B. Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience developing communication strategies in the fields of corporate communications, development communications, public relations with the public and private sectors, and/or cooperation projects. (Communications Strategy Development)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in Communications Management (Public Relations)
  • Experience in graphic production, photo/video editing, and layout will be highly valued (a portfolio of work will be requested).
  • Knowledge and experience with United Nations agencies, international cooperation agencies, and/or international organizations will be valued.
  • Experience in the country and/or region will be valued.

C. Languages

  • Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is required.
  • An advanced level of English (both written and oral) is required.
