Context
In West Africa, information manipulation and foreign interference (IMI/FII), state propaganda, and local disinformation pose a growing threat to social cohesion and public trust. Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) gGmbH, in collaboration with international and local partners, is implementing the project “Prebunking West Africa: Early Detection and Countering Disinformation, IMI, and Disinformation in Benin, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau,” funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (Division 607). This project establishes a proactive prebunking system designed to identify manipulative narratives early and neutralize them before they go viral.
Mission objective
The Trainer will design, lead, and facilitate a capacity-building workshop in the target country during the project’s integration phase (2026). They will strengthen the skills of local journalists, content creators, moderators, and partner fact-checkers in prebunking, smartphone video production, and digital security protocols.
Main responsibilities
- Program and workshop design: development of interactive training modules tailored to local journalists and content creators, focusing on prebunking techniques, rumor verification, and digital storytelling.
- Workshop facilitation: Facilitate a four-day in-person workshop in the target country, intended for members of the local network and partner organizations.
- Digital security training: training participants in digital security hygiene, reducing risks related to online harassment or state surveillance, as well as secure communication tools (Signal, ProtonMail).
- Onboarding support: providing intensive coaching to selected moderators (“Young Talents”) and media producers on on-camera comfort, mobile journalism (MoJo) techniques and fast production workflows.
- Post-training reports: write an evaluation report summarizing participant results, performance feedback, and recommendations for ongoing mentoring.

Required qualifications (all positions)
- Solid experience in media development, journalism training or teaching media and information literacy in crisis contexts.
- Proven expertise in counter-disinformation strategies, pre-bunking methodologies and digital security practices.
- Proven experience in facilitating interactive workshops in West Africa or similar regional environments.
- Perfect command of French.
- Knowledge of the local, regional and national context.
Additional requirement for the position in Guinea-Bissau
- Fluency in Portuguese is essential, in addition to French or English.
