The Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) is a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to save lives and improve the lives of people in vulnerable situations. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it provides timely assistance in emergencies, disasters, and contexts of humanitarian need.
Guided by its Fundamental Principles—Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality—the CRV acts as an auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian field, working to reduce human suffering without distinction of race, gender, religion, or ideology. Its work encompasses emergency medical care, strengthening community resilience, first aid training, disaster response, and the promotion of health and well-being.
In the Health and Wellbeing area, a project has begun to improve access to and quality of maternal, neonatal, and sexual health services in community health centers in the states of Amazonas, Apure, Barinas, Portuguesa, and Guárico through infrastructure rehabilitation, provision of essential equipment, and community capacity building. To establish the initial status of the project’s key components in terms of maternal, child, sexual, and reproductive health (SRH), community health organization, WASH conditions, and health center operations, a set of data collection tools was designed.
In health centers, data is collected on their current status in terms of basic conditions, equipment, availability of supplies, and compliance with clinical protocols. In the communities selected to implement the project, volunteers collect data that will determine whether women of reproductive age have access to health services (whether they have received contraceptives, attended prenatal checkups, received breastfeeding counseling, or had their children vaccinated). They also collect data to assess the population’s level of knowledge on topics such as menstruation, reproductive health, pregnancy, family planning, newborn care, breastfeeding, and sexually transmitted infections.
