CONTEXT :
Since 2005, Handicap International has been collecting used prostheses through the Liimba project, a prosthesis reconditioning activity for use in the form of component donations to partner rehabilitation centers serving vulnerable populations in HI’s intervention countries.
The workshop is primarily run by volunteers who dismantle prostheses and extract the usable components (feet, knees, etc.). They then carefully clean, refurbish, and methodically store these parts until they are shipped to partner centers in Africa and Asia. JOB OBJECTIVES:
Reporting to the Liimba Project Manager, the Workshop Manager is responsible for the technical, operational, and organizational management of the workshop. They ensure the quality of the refurbishment processes, the overall performance of the workshop, and actively contribute to the structuring and development of Liimba’s activities, in support of HI’s humanitarian programs.
Responsibility 1: Operational management of the workshop:
- Organize and coordinate the daily activities of the workshop
- To provide operational supervision to the volunteers present during the sessions
- Ensure the proper distribution of tasks and compliance with technical instructions.
- Ensure the smooth running of the workshop (organization, cleanliness, safety)
- Plan the workshop activities in the short and medium term
Responsibility 2: Guarantee standards and quality control:
- Ensure compliance with the prosthesis reconditioning process defined by HI
- Implement hygiene and safety standards appropriate to this activity within the workshop.
- Upon arrival at the workshop, perform the initial sorting of donations into recyclable and non-recyclable categories.
- Ensure quality control of reconditionable prosthetic components
- Ensure quality control of all refurbished components before they are put into stock, in accordance with industry standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of reconditioning processes
- To ensure compliance with quality standards and contribute to their evolution
Responsibility 3: Logistics:
- Ensure the physical preparation of component orders
- Organize and maintain stock (receipt, exit, storage)
- Update stock records and tracking tools
- Participate in the annual inventory
- Ensure the proper functioning of workshop equipment
- Coordinate incoming (collection) and outgoing (international shipments) flows
- Interacting with logistics partners (carriers, technical partners)
- Identify the needs for consumables and equipment
Responsibility 4: Continuous improvement of the workshop:
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the workshop’s processes, organization, and tools.
- Identify and propose areas for optimization (technical, organizational, logistical)
Responsibility 5: Team leadership and coordination:
- Facilitating working sessions with volunteers
- To foster a positive team spirit and a collaborative environment
- To transmit good technical and organizational practices
- Structuring and fostering team dynamics around volunteers
Responsibility 6: Management and reporting:
- Monitor activity indicators (volumes, refurbishment rates, stocks)
- Contribute to the reporting of the Liimba project (quarterly and annual reports)
- Participate in activity planning with the Project Manager
- Identify the workshop’s development needs (equipment, organization, resources)
REQUIRED PROFILE:
- BTS Orthotist or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanics and Industry
- Operational supervision of a team (volunteers or technicians)
- Experience in workshop management, production or technical environment, ideally in the field of orthopedic prosthetics or medical devices
- Rigour and organizational skills
- Proficiency in English is an asset

The Liimba HI workshop is located at 101 boulevard Irène Joliot Curie, 69200, Vénissieux in the immediate vicinity of the “La Borelle” station of Tram T4.
From autumn 2026, the workshop will be located at 10 rue Phélypeaux 69100 Villeurbanne, accessible via:
- By bike : a gentle mode of transport accessible via the Lyon cycle routes and two Vélo’v stations nearby.
- By tram : T1 / T4 / T9 Condorcet stop, 3 minutes walk. Or T6 La Doua – Gaston Berger stop, 14 minutes walk.
- By metro : the Charpennes stop is a 10-minute walk away. Metro lines A and B are accessible for people with reduced mobility.
- By bus : C2 and 70 – Rosselini stop – 5 minutes walk.
- By car : access to the ring road 1.5 km away.
