SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that, for over 40 years, has been providing relief to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs, such as food, water, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the world’s leading cause of death, SI’s interventions leverage expertise in the areas of access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion, as well as in the essential areas of food security and livelihoods. Present in over 20 countries, SI’s teams, a total of 3,000 people, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and a few volunteers, operate with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.

The mission

Since March 2020, SI has been working in France to address the challenges of water, hygiene, and sanitation insecurity in five territories. In partnership with metropolitan water and sanitation operators and their foundations, its projects target populations living in degraded sites such as shantytowns or squats, particularly those with limited access to basic services, such as drinking water, sanitation, and access to essential hygiene products. SI’s strategy is to support local stakeholders in their search for concrete solutions, by proposing to improve the sanitary conditions of the sites, in particular through the installation of drinking water supplies, sanitation infrastructure, and the development of pilot projects adapted to the context of each intervention area.
