Protection Coordinator At Women Now for Development

Background:

“Women Now for Development” WND is a feminist, women-led, and rights-based organization with eleven years of experience. WND specializes in programs for women and adolescent girls in Syria. Working in four integrated program areas Protection, Empowerment, Participation, Advocacy and Research programs.

Tasks and Duties:

To ensure compliance with and develop WND procedures and policies. Overall responsibility includes quality and timely management (Supervising, providing support and developing) of Protection activities in Syria and Turkey, as well as supervising protection sector teams, representation at relevant clusters and Working Groups and coordination with implementing partners. The role contributes to the development of protection strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to WND team while overseeing all projects and activities.

Main Tasks

  • Protection project and sector oversight
  • Support the development of the protection program strategy based on yearly projected funding (Including locations and activities).
  • Coordinate, plan, and monitor Protection project activities in working areas, ensuring adherence to sector, donor, and internal requirements and guidelines.
  • Oversee the overall protection portfolio in geographic areas, including identifying funding and capacity gaps.
  • Hold regular meetings with the project managers to understand programmatic challenges and technical support requirements. Highlight when programs are off-track in implementation for further discussion with the Project Managers and Department Managers. Identify any areas where further technical support, oversight, or resources are needed.
  • Ensure the highest quality of the sectoral interventions, including adherence to best practice programming and minimum standards in coordination with the Protection Manager.
  • Ensure coherence between all ongoing projects/activities and those proposed, according to the overall WND strategy.
  • Ensure high quality and timely deliverables, narrative reporting and financial overviews, close cooperation with donors and coordination mechanisms on site, and in synergy with other WND interventions in the area.
  • Formalize and develop project-related operational tools and training modules with support from the Protection Consultant.
  • Provide input for monthly, quarterly, interim and annual donor reports, and project proposals and communication items, as requested.
  • With the MEAL Coordinator, ensure a MEAL plan is in place and implemented for Women’s, girls’, and children’s Protection activities and that the relevant Information Management systems are in place.
  • Develop quarterly workplans with Protection Consultant for support to each area.
  • Support new proposal design, including activity design and budgeting, along with Projects Managers , where needed. Sign-off on all project proposals and budgets (related to protection activities).
  • Technical Support
  • Managing, coaching and developing the Protection team
  • Provide technical assistance to the Protection teams, including SOPs and guidance development.
  • Regularly review and provide technical advice on project workplans and protection activities with team leaders.
  • Work with the Protection Consultant to provide regular technical trainings and capacity building to protection staff, and implement partners
  • Ensure protection mainstreaming including review of all programming approaches, SOPs and tools, and staff capacity development
  • Organize and facilitate regular Protection team meetings across two for knowledge sharing, peer support and quality improvement.
  • Carry out sector needs assessments, as needed.
  • Protection Advocacy and Coordination
  • Support finalization of monthly protection monitoring reports, Communications with communities, and compile into a monthly WND Protection Monitoring report for external circulation. Work with Programs Manager to develop clear and targeted recommendations for different audiences.
  • Develop for the Programs Manager review protection reports and analysis on identified protection concerns for internal and external briefings.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external technical experts on issues related to relevant sector, including UNHCR, UNICEF, OCHA Clusters and partner organizations.
  • Represent WND at relevant coordination meetings, Protection Working Groups, ensuring that issues from the field are raised and addressed.
  • Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by the Line Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education in women’s studies, social work, social or psychological sciences, other relevant fields (desirable)
  • Excellent understanding of the Syrian context in general, and specifically Syrian civil society
  • 3+ years’ experience working in either Rights-based NGOs, or Humanitarian NGOs.
  • 2+ years of experience in managerial level
  • Experience in awareness raising about gender-transformative justice, intersectionality, human rights, and broader structural determinants compounding violence against women and girls
  • Experience in working on programs/projects specifically for women and/or adolescent girls
  • Applicants should also demonstrate a keen interest in Women Now values and strong motivation in putting them into practice.

Personal Skills

  • Strong experience in project management, the ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure,work under pressure, and maintain attention to details.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing Arabic language political participation, human rights, and gender training curricula relevant to women in the Syrian context.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to command respect and to create a sense of community amongst the members of the team members.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Good report writing skills and attention to details.
  • A self-starter with an efficient and hard-working approach.
  • Good Skills in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, as well as video communication platforms.
  • Speaking Arabic fluently and have good English skills.
  • Living in Gaziantep – Turkey (Turkish Citizenship holders is preferred).
