Job Summary
The project aims to promote social cohesion in northern and eastern Hama countryside by using agriculture and peacebuilding as a unifying entry point for cooperation among local community components. The approach is based on Training of Trainers (ToT) for a group of facilitators who will later lead activities designed as serious simulation games, linking agricultural recovery with trust-building, inclusive decision-making, and conflict-sensitive collaboration.
The Peacebuilding Expert will support the project team in integrating principles of peace, social cohesion, and conflict sensitivity into the design of the training materials for facilitators, in coordination with the Agricultural Expert. The expert will also contribute to developing a framework that ensures agricultural technical knowledge is delivered within an approach that fosters cooperation, dialogue, and social justice.
At the end of the project, the Peacebuilding Expert will collaborate with the Agricultural Expert to prepare a knowledge paper documenting the main outputs and findings from the simulation activities, along with lessons learned and recommendations that support future planning and community recovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to developing the training materials for facilitators, ensuring the integration of peacebuilding, social cohesion, and conflict sensitivity themes within the agricultural framework.
- Provide technical support to the Badael team and facilitators after the training materials are developed, to ensure the effective incorporation of social cohesion principles in the simulation activities.
- Analyze and document the social and political outcomes emerging from the simulation sessions, in collaboration with the Agricultural Expert.
- Participate in drafting and finalizing the knowledge paper that summarizes the social and agricultural challenges, solutions, and experiences highlighted during the simulations, while providing practical recommendations to strengthen social cohesion and participatory governance.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Social Sciences, Peace Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in peacebuilding or social cohesion in similar contexts.
- In-depth knowledge of the Syrian context, particularly Hama countryside, and of local social and political dynamics.
- Solid understanding of conflict sensitivity concepts and the role of agricultural and economic development in fostering social cohesion.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to draft materials, reports, and knowledge papers, as well as the capacity to link social dynamics to the design of games and extract findings.
- Strong communication skills in Arabic (English is an added advantage).
