The Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) is a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to save lives and improve the conditions of vulnerable people. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it provides timely assistance in emergencies, disasters, and other humanitarian crises.

How can you make a difference? Key functions / Responsibilities

The nurse will have the main responsibility for the effective implementation of activities related to health promotion and disease prevention, as well as supporting medical personnel with the necessary health knowledge according to their professional profile within the framework of the action of the care strategy for the beneficiary population of the project.

He/She will be in charge of:

  • Provide primary health care in accordance with standard nursing procedures within the framework of the implementation of activities.
  • Provide guidance to beneficiaries on key health issues.
  • Perform the care records.
  • To support medical professionals in the diagnosis of prevalent diseases.
  • Coordinate with medical personnel the mandatory reporting of diseases in accordance with the findings.
  • Verify the availability of inventories of medicines and supplies necessary for the implementation of specific activities within the framework of the activities developed.
  • Request medications and supplies for patient delivery or procedures according to specific needs.
  • Comply with the patient referral and counter-referral mechanisms in the health network identified in the territory of care development.
  • Support the development of educational sessions in communities for the promotion of public health at the prevention level.
  • Support the inventory of medicines and supplies by indicating name, expiration date, registration date, presentation, quantity and other categories required by the format.
  • Prior to the implementation of each activity, carry out, together with the other team members, the packing of the required items in order to guarantee their effective transport and subsequent use.
  • After the implementation of each activity, carry out, together with the other team members, the unpacking of the items used in order to guarantee their effective transport and subsequent storage.
  • Report the status of the equipment under your responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Properly file the verification sources for the project under your responsibility.
  • Coordinate your work with the different people assigned by the health center for the development of the planned activities.
  • Prepare and submit a timely progress report on the agreement of the established formats in accordance with the logical framework of the project.
  • In coordination with the other health professionals on the team, systematize the data collected during the health days and upload them to the appropriate system.
  • Comply with and ensure the implementation of biosafety standards.
  • Know and comply with the safety standards in operations established for the development of the project.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by your immediate superiors to contribute to the achievement of organizational objectives.

Report

The nurse will report to the Local Project Coordinator and the branch president.

Workplace

Maracaibo (CRV Maracaibo Branch), San Cristóbal (CRV San Cristóbal Branch), San Fernando de Apure (CRV San Fernando de Apure Branch), Guasdualito (CRV Guasdualito Branch).

To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Professional degree in nursing (provide proof of degree).
  • Registration with the Autonomous Sanitary Control Service.
  • Registration with the College of Nurses, and solvency.
  • Experience in developing care actions from a nursing perspective in emergency services, outpatient clinics and public health.
  • Academic and practical knowledge of primary health care.
  • Training in comprehensive health care for victims of sexual violence (desirable).
  • Have the following vaccines: tetanus, yellow fever and hepatitis b.
  • Focus on providing a quality service to beneficiary populations.
  • Flexibility in working hours and days.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and contexts.
  • Motivation for humanitarian and community work.
  • Experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member under difficult conditions and high levels of stress.
  • Skills in negotiation and peaceful/constructive conflict resolution.
  • Capacity and agreement to adhere to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and professional ethics.
