The Venezuelan Red Cross (CRV) is a humanitarian organization whose mandate is to save lives and improve the conditions of vulnerable people. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it provides timely assistance in emergencies, disasters, and other humanitarian crises.

Guided by its Fundamental Principles—Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality—the CRV acts as an auxiliary to public authorities in the humanitarian field, working to reduce human suffering without distinction of race, gender, religion, or ideology. Its work encompasses emergency medical care, strengthening community resilience, first aid training, disaster response, and the promotion of health and well-being.

How can you make a difference? Key functions / Responsibilities

The Community Promoter will have the main responsibility of providing support in the work to be carried out by the local Coordinator.

He/She will be in charge of:

  • Implement the census/characterization of prioritized communities.
  • Establish a community work plan in accordance with the baseline for prioritized communities, ensuring the applicability of educational sessions according to their needs.
  • Carry out the prioritization and schedule of the sectors (health, protection, water, sanitation and hygiene, among others) to be intervened in accordance with what is established in the project.
  • Implementation and monitoring of the community plan.
  • Ensure the support of the sources of verification of the actions implemented in accordance with the guidelines of the national headquarters.
  • Facilitate inter-institutional coordination in order to generate complementarity and avoid duplication of actions.
  • Promote the strengthening of community organizational structures through participation.
  • Promote resilient and social management actions that empower communities in their development processes.
  • Advise on the management and operation process of associative forms that arise during the project or that were already present in the beneficiary communities.
  • Analyze with the communities and entities present in the area, a specific strategy to strengthen self-management capacities and strengthen community structures.
  • Establish and coordinate the formation of healthy environment committees and their respective training processes.
  • To deliver educational sessions together with volunteers to ensure a change in behavior in the intervention communities.
  • Consolidation and analysis of information for the preparation of reports, providing timely feedback.
  • Prepare follow-up, periodic and final technical reports and report to the local Coordinator.

Report

The Community Promoter will report to the Local Coordinator.

Maracaibo Branch, San Fernando de Apure Branch, Guasdualito Branch, San Cristóbal Branch.

To qualify as a builder of the Venezuelan humanitarian system, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (required)
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Promoter. Minimum of one (1) year of experience, desirable.
  • At least 1 year working with health teams, including doctors and nurses, in the implementation of medical and community activities, desirable.
  • Experience working with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Capacity and agreement to adhere to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and professional ethics.
