Rooted in values of solidarity, mutual respect, and justice, the project fosters community, agency, and resilience in a context shaped by European migration policies.
Role description
Our Wood Workshop Supervisor is responsible for ensuring participants have the opportunity to use the workshop independently, but also to gain and enhance their skills with woodwork and related tools. The Wood Workshop is a heavily used working area in Habibi.Works with both very skilled carpenters coming to use the space, as well as people who have no experience with wood yet.
Primary responsibilities:
- Make sure people use the machines correctly. If you see someone misusing a machine, offer your help; this is about education and empowerment. Show someone how to use the tools correctly and then encourage them to use the tools correctly
- Support people in realizing their ideas; guide people through the design and actual building process if needed. Provide guidance for self-guided projects as well as through organised, guided workshops
- Ensure the Wood Workshop remains clean and tidy and tools are put back after use; engage participants in this!
- Manage the distribution of material while adhering to our guidelines for material use per individual project
- Make sure people wear the safety gear (gloves and glasses) and the maximum number of people that can be in the working area is not exceeded
- Ensure participants are following Habibi.Works’ guideline of “making, not taking.” This means only finished projects can be taken home, not raw materials.
- Make sure the workshop is closed and locked whenever you can’t be there to supervise.
- Keep stock of the material. Communicate material needs to the relevant team member and support in acquiring new material
- Keep an eye on tools and equipment. If something is broken, communicate this to the relevant team member and support in finding a solution.
Secondary responsibilities:
- Organize tools and materials. Sort what is needed and not, and document if anything is missing
- Plan and organize guided activities in the working area on a weekly basis
- Documentation of the activities of every day in the working area
